An estimated half of Kiryat Shmona's population left town, while residents of other communities along the northern border left in droves.
Meir Even Haim, of Kiryat Shmona, said that all 19 apartments in his building are empty: "When we left Wednesday night, one family remained, and it left this morning." He moved his family to his mother's house in Safed, but the Katyushas followed them there. Today, the family will most likely move to the center of the country.
"From past experience, once it starts, it doesn't end well," he said. "I'm not going home at any rate, even though the expenses aren't easy."
"We're not scared; we're used to the situation. But we left because of the kids," said Marcelle Tzadok, who moved with her family from Kiryat Shmona to Kibbutz Gonen. "My boy is 11. I was pregnant with him the last time Katyushas fell here, and I left town then, too. But he doesn't know what it's like. I don't want him to experience trauma," she added
