Hillary's Secret '08 Strategy Revealed (Heaven Help Us)
READ MORE: Hillary Clinton, 2008, Red State, 2006, Washington Post
Hillary Clinton has a strict rule prohibiting her friends and advisors from talking publicly about her running in 2008. Turns out, it might be a good rule.

In today's on-the-one-hand-and-on-the-other front page WaPo story on Hillary, a "close advisor" to Clinton breaks the keep-it-zipped-on-08 decree -- with jaw-dropping results.

Elaborating on how Hillary can overcome voter uncertainty by, as the story puts it, reintroducing her values and biography to a national electorate," the anonymous advisor says: "She will define herself, and we have the money to do it. People have to get to know her, know that she was once a Republican, that she's a big Methodist... That will happen."

How pathetic for our republic.

A nation of 300 million people and we might have to chose from two families? Clintons or Bushes?

If we end up with Clinton/??? against McCain/Jeb Bush --- then you can bet I'll be voting third party.

8. she is unelectable.
if she becomes our candidate, we will not win.
The right and even the centrist right hates her with an irrational burning passion of a thousand suns.
I'm a left liberal and I don't care for her views on Iraq, and other topics.

That means the narrow sliver of people, the DLC mainly, supports her.

we will lose.

Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 06:15 PM by Maccagirl
she is delusional. The RW infrastructure that has been in power since the '80's is still there and she does not possess the political skill to overcome them no matter what she tries. Quit listening to your friends, Hillary. Maybe the only way to get through to her (however painful) is for her to lose the senate seat. RFK, Jr. would be a worthy senator for the great state of New York.

I guess I was a Republican when I was 11 YEARS OLD too, since I somehow supported Richard Nixon, have no idea why. I don't think my parents did. I know that I had no idea of he stood for.

she was first lady of the state I live in for a long time.

I think she's moving to the right to be able to win over moderates who outnumber those on the far left or far right.

I don't agree with her on a lot of things.

But I wouldn't say she isn't progressive.

for years

she's moved more to the center since her tenure in the Senate, mostly rebuilding herself for the 08 run.

The Hillary Rodham that was Bill the Governor's wife was very progressive in her ideas and politics.

48. Yes she WAS progressive
But sponsoring censorship legislation and supporting the Iraq war are certainly not progressive positions. And what she does now COUNTS, unlike what she tried to do when she was merely married to a politician, and not in office herself.

30. No surprise there.
I'm about a half mile from Park Ridge, IL, where Hillary grew up, and there's a lot of money there. No surprise that they were Repubs.

Also, Richard Nixon?!? :wtf: I was 9 in '72, and I passed out campaign stuff for McGovern. I think my reasons were: 1) Nixon gave me the willies somethin' fierce, and 2) we had a Dem ward office right near my grade school.

Even if she DOES manage to get the nomination and win (ultra long shot), the divisiveness we experience now will be NOTHING compared to what will happen there.

I am sick and tired of it and wish her all the best as a great senator. We need senators of longevity and the wisdom that comes when Presidential ambitions are waved good-bye.

29. Re:
I don't know what I think about hillary running. I'm not sure I really have a strong opinion of her either way, though I think that the RWers who constantly attack her need to see a good psychiatrist.

Having said all that, I agree with those who said that Hillary may not be the best candidate that our party has to offer. Barack Obama and others like him would SMOKE any GOP candidate that tried to belittle him about values or national security. Wesley Clark is another very strong candidate who would probably be better than Hillary.

Just my opinion.

47. i've read the article but I'm missing something. Is this where he
confirmed it?

"She will define herself, and we will have the money to do it," said one close adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because Clinton has forbidden those close to her to speculate publicly about 2008. "People have to get to know her, know that she was once a Republican, that she's a big Methodist. . . . That will happen."

I believe she's putting out feelers but that's about it. BTW, if she plays to the middle she's going to get killed.
