Putin ridicules Bush to his face; Russian press laughs.
During today's G8 press conference, Bush and Putin had the following exchange:

BUSH: I talked about my desire to promote institutional change in parts of the world, like Iraq, where there’s a free press and free religion. And I told him that a lot of people in our country would hope that Russia will do the same thing. I fully understand, however, that there will be a Russian-style democracy.

PUTIN: We certainly would not want to have same kind of democracy as they have in Iraq, quite honestly.

BUSH: Just wait.

watch the clip--it's hilarious.

Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 01:12 PM by niyad
"pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"--except, in his case, I think it's a matter of "pay no attention to the clown in front of the curtain". the clown act is deliberately designed, I truly believe, to keep our attention focused on the cretin clowning and parading and being a total doofus, so that we don't pay attention to what is going on behind the scenes.

in the Lord Peter Wimsey, he is, at one point, giving instructions to some of his assistants, and says, "beware the man looking you straight in the eye. he wants to prevent you from seeing something" with the msm and the thugs in charge, I interpret this to mean, "beware of the msm and the powers-that-be focusing your attention on some inane, stupid thing. they are up to something, and don't want you paying attention"

5. It's the delusional thing, I'm pretty sure.
Despite the fact that they have absolutely no rational plan to deal with the insurgency OR the civil war in Iraq, Bush still thinks it's all going to work out fine--and apparently thinks it currently stands as a model of "freedom." I guess if you think the most important freedom is the right to bear arms, he's right.

At least the "you forgot Poland" remark was based in fact--however irrelevant. "Just wait"--presumably for Iraq to magically emerge from the current chaos and be transformed into a peaceful, prosperous and pro-U.S. democracy--is based entirely in wishful thinking.

75. Yeah, he probably went out the door saying
I am going to get that smartass...and IMMEDIATELY asked one of his traveling brains how to do it...and this was the result.

Sociopath:
Glibness and Superficial Charm

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

People with this disorder may exhibit criminal behavior. They may
not work. If they do work, they are frequently absent or may quit
suddenly. They do not consider other people's wishes, welfare or
rights. They can be manipulative and may lie to gain personal
pleasure or profit. They may default on loans, fail to provide child
support, or fail to care for their dependents adequately. High risk
sexual behavior and substance abuse are common. Impulsiveness,
failure to plan ahead, aggressiveness, irritability, irresponsibility,
and a reckless disregard for their own safety and the safety of
others are traits of the antisocial personality.

47. Appears little boots was trying to pull off his typical...
faux-cowboy diplomacy bullshit, yet got the stick horse shot right out from under him.

What a complete and utter embarrassment he is.

Nice zinger from Putin, though, in response to an entirely ridiculous notion that Iraq somehow is now a model free democracy...the chimp is delusional.

48. Its kind of tough speaking bulshit when the press isn't totally controlled
and handpicked by the Bush Admin. Bush forgets that when he leaves the U.S., free speech comes back into play, thus the sincere reactions to his ridiculous statements.

while driving him around the Crawford pig farm a while back he somehow missed that particularly sharp corner of Pooty-poot's ticker.

65. I'm ashamed
I listened to the rerun in the car... all by myself yet I was squirming with discomfort. I kept wanting to say "Who the hell let him out. Get the cane... get him TF off the stage... now". He was yelling again. He always yells when he has nothing to say or is backed into a corner. Why was he yelling? Who the hell was he scolding? The Russian press? The world?" One reporter asked a very good, complicated yet clear question... used really big words. Bush asked him (I knew he would) to repeat the question. He still didn't understand, so he stuttered a bit and he gave some totally unrelated answer. The President of the United States of America. What a joke. I'm so ashamed.

71. Watch CNN's Ed Henry spin this in favor of Bush
Ed Henry tap-dances at the end of this broadcast making it sound as if Bush's lame "Just wait" comeback was actually the end of the debate. Embarrassing:
