All this Rapture-talk makes me wonder if you've seen this movie...
"The Rapture" -- a 1991 film starring Mimi Rogers. This is a very intriguing movie; one of my all-time favorites. You can read about it here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0102757/

The interesting thing about this movie is that the main character is caught up in the Rapture (yes, it comes in the movie -- and it's well done!) and is given a final choice after she KNOWS the Rapture is real -- enter heaven or refuse. She says "No." It's a stunning moment. I think that's how I would respond. Anyway, check it out if you ever get the chance.

1. Not much room for spiritual growth if you choose the easy way
out... or at least that is what I have heard.

2. Most movies based on the Christian mythos
with the notable exception of "The Prophesy" just give me the creeps. Okay, that movie gave me the creeps too, but I LOVED Walken as a monkey-hating angel, and the devil was a complete crackup.

7. try this one for creepy:
"The Sentinel" (http://imdb.com/title/tt0076683/) "One of the scariest and campiest films ever made)

Or "Fallen" with Denzel Washington

and, of course, "Dogma" (http://imdb.com/name/nm0001551/)

3. What about the Left Behind Trilogy
You know they are camp classics. :puke: They keep Kirk Cameron's career afloat. :sarcasm:

4. I saw it...
It blew me away. I hadn't seen anything like it or since. It left me speechless at the end and I thought about it for weeks afterwards. It's the conversation with her daughter that got to me.

I really should see it again.

9. Yes, it is an interesting movie. Have you seen this one?

"The Next One" - 1984, starring Keir Dullea and Adrienne Barbeau. I was only able to see it once, probably 20 years ago on cable, but it has stuck in my mind. It's set in Greece; I don't remember a lot of the details, but I think of it in the same kind of category. It's here:

10. have not.... but will check it out.
Always looking for good little movies I've missed. That's how I came across "The Hidden" some years ago. Very good -- but seen by few.

13. Very interesting movie.
Mimi Rogers was very good in it; David Duchovney (sp?) wasn't half bad either. Her anger toward God as the rapture occurred (I won't say why because I don't want to be a spoiler for anyone who wants to see the movie) tapped into many of the Old Testament stories for me--the idea of God not being a fair or just God, just a figure demanding total obedience. It's a very haunting movie!

14. That "Left Behind" movie is a comedy classic.
It's even funnier than the Simpsons parody "Left Below."

Catch it if you can.

But The Rapture is a very good film. That sound of the trumpet in the film: one day I heard a train warning whistle that sounded almost exactly like the trumpet in the film.

A chill ran through me and suddenly I was a pious little Catholic school boy again! (Not that Catholics will be attending the big exclusive war-mongers bash in the sky that the fundies got planned for themselves.)

15. yes, the trumpet was amazing! And the horses....
it was a well done film, and not a huge budget for special effects.
