Every Planet Must Protect Herself Against Terra-ist Attacks
7-13-06, G. W. Bush: "Every Nation must protect Herself against Terrorist Attacks......."

"It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself." --Thomas Jefferson

"Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." --Thomas Jefferson

History requires a world of time and bitter hard work when your "education" is no further advanced than the cat's; when you are merely stuffing yourself with a mixed-up mess of empty names and random incidents and elusive dates; which no one teaches you how to interpret, and which, uninterpreted, pay you not a farthing's value for your waste of time. -- Mark Twain

A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right. --Thomas Paine

I have a Dream ---Martin Luther King, Jr.

The World is my country, all humankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion. --Thomas Paine

“Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.” -- Rachel Carson

“The earth is what we all have in common.” --Wendell Barry

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find resources of strength that will endure as long as life lasts” -- Rachel Carson

“The last sound on the worthless earth will be two human beings trying to launch a homemade spaceship and already quarreling about where they are going next.” --William Faulkner

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival.” --Wendell Berry

We have it in our power to begin the world over again. --Thomas Paine

1. I spelt Diamante wrong
Googled to find stories on this little boy and couldn't find em. (!)

Diamante is the six year old that was found in the devastated City of New Orleans after Hurrican Katrina, carrying a baby and leading a little band of toddlers through the nightmare.

Peace.

2. the controversy rages on

“The earth is what we all have in common.” --Wendell Barry

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival.” --Wendell Berry

Berry or Barry? Chary or cherry? Shari or sherry? Carrie or Kerry?

Why not both? But my copy of "The Unsettling of America" says 'Berry'

Great quotes btw

"We do not believe that any violence to places, to people, or to other creatures is 'inevitable'. We believe the industrial ideology is wrong because it obscures and disrupts this necessary work of local adaptation or home making."

Except that the vast majority of Democrats and DUers either support the industrial ideology or take it for granted as inevitable or desirable. However they are the primary opposition to Republicans who put the industrial ideology on steroids.

5. oh you're right I've always seen it as "Berry"
:hi: hfojvt :spray:

I am not that familiar with his work. Which book would you recommend?

Oh and then the other controversy-- industrial ideology addiction-- being even more controversial and URGENT. We don't seem to be able to recognize too well the insanity of our own society or the signs that it is diseased.......

Some/more businesses are starting to see that sustainability makes economic sense.

6. Unsettling of America is the only one I've read
but it is awesome.

"Sex, Economy, Freedom, and Community" looks interesting, or maybe the title is just titillating. Of course my library has next to nothing. I should think of him next time I swim the Amazon.
