1. And what's that?
Serious? Annoying? One of those diseases that makes you give back the $2.5 million you made on shady land deals?

6. It is VERY serious and fast moving! My husband almost died of a strep A
infection that got into his bloodstream. Within hours, he went from healthy to knocking on death's door. It was almost a week before they could say he would survive.

19. Necrotizing Fasciitis is what he had, I think
The way CNN is talking about it, it seems as if they think the diagnosis is more serious than cellulitis.. But then we all know how they love to exaggerate:shrug:

20. Necrotizing Fasciitis is the damage caused by the bacteria
MRSA is the most common cause of NF.

24. My husband had necrotizing fasciitis/myoitis but by Strep instead of Staph
They surmise it started with a small cut near a cuticle, contracted a bad flu, which weakened his immune system and BAM! Unbelievably scarey!

9. It very well could be - seriously.
It's a deep skin infection, caused by staph, but could be methicillin-resistant staph aureus - the really bad one that "eats" the tissue.

11. It's a deep skin infection.
Caused by bacteria, sometimes a baddie like methicillin-resistant staph a. If that's the case, he's in for a rough road.

12. I didn't hear them say it was flesh-eating bacteria, but he has a
bacterial infection in his lower leg.

Hey, I bet if they just cut it off, they can get him one of those new and improved myo-electrical legs and he can go running with Dumbya every day. I mean, it's no big deal for the soldiers to lose a limb, is it? :sarcasm: This is probaby alot cheaper in the long run, given Hastert's heath.

15. My sister had that
It was very localized in an infection on her foot. All it took was for the enormous (the size of half a softball) swollen area to drain and a round of antibiotics and she was fine. Of course what's no trouble at all with a healthy young person can be dangerous for an old and unhealthy person like Hastert.

17. Everythingsxen went septic and almost died from a MRSA infection
It's a really weird bug, because sometimes it will just kill an otherwise-healthy person.

22. My best friend's husband was ill for 8 months with Cellulitis
He suddenly became ill, went into a coma, and was completely helpless for 6 months, and went to two
different hospitals, and to a Nursing home for about 2 months, before he could even be brought home.
He had to have dialysis for all those months, and had even been given up by some.

This is a very serious condition, and after seeing my friend going through what he did, I wouldn't want to see anyone go through that. The good thing is, they can come out of it. We have living proof of that. "Otis" is learning to walk again, and beginning to do some things on his own. He still has some trouble speaking clearly, but he's making gains every day.

26. Cellulitis can range from relatively minor to extremely serious.
It just means a bacterial infection of the soft tissue, skin, muscle etc. It can be small, localized and superficial and can sometimes just be treated as an outpatient with oral antibiotics in a mild case, not necessarily requiring surgical treatment.

Or, as in the case of necrotizing fasciitis ("flesh eating bacteria") it can be extremely aggressive and rapidly involve lots of tissue, requiring sometimes multiple surgical treatments to trim away dead and infected tissue.

As with many types of infection, susceptibility is influenced by things like advanced age, overall health, poor circulation, diabetes, and of course immune system function.
