Suzanne Malveau, CNN, got to bush big time on N. Korea
during Chicago news conference. Really pinned him on the intelligence that claims that N. Korea could have 6 to 12 new nukes since 2003. Bush was scrambling and trying to cut her off and she kept asking the question. Sure like that girl. The audience of newsies were moving around uncomfortably.

8. She asked bush what plans he had to change the direction
of the situation in N. Korea since things have gone from bad to worse (my interpretation of her question) or was he planning to do anything different. It was so obvious that bush was scrambling for words, and made a feeble statement about they are laying the ground work for dealing with that country. Yeah, right!

7. I don't agree about John King. I think he's been consistently even-
handed, calm, rational, and professional in his reporting.

11. Agree, so far John has stayed in the middle
He even said to Howard Dean "to have a good day" (something like that) which Wolfie would Never say to Dean. Every little bit helps with the MSM.

10. I thought that question and Bush's response would be the story
coming out of that press conference.

Is he saying that NK hasn't increased its nuclear capacity since he became Prez? Does he believe that himself?

Then he *& Plante did a back and forth about it a couple of questions later. (I'd like to see a transcript of that exchange)
something like:
If you know would you tell us?
If I didn't know would I tell you? chuckle chuckle

14. Loved her not backing down about N. Korea's buildup of nuclear arsenal
She mentioned that during his administration, N. Korea has increased its nuclear arsenal, and HE DISPUTED THAT! When asked to provide a source, Malveaux cited the National Security Council or some other body -- didn't back down one inch! And then she followed up with something like, "Why shouldn't the American people consider your policies toward N. Korea a failure?" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

17. Here's a flashback to the debates and North Korea policy
from a post by DUer pirhana:

Kerry

"With respect to North Korea, the real story: We had inspectors and television cameras in the nuclear reactor in North Korea. Secretary Bill Perry negotiated that under President Clinton. And we knew where the fuel rods were. And we knew the limits on their nuclear power.

Colin Powell, our secretary of state, announced one day that we were going to continue the dialog of working with the North Koreans. The president reversed it publicly while the president of South Korea was here.

And the president of South Korea went back to South Korea bewildered and embarrassed because it went against his policy. And for two years, this administration didn't talk at all to North Korea.

While they didn't talk at all, the fuel rods came out, the inspectors were kicked out, the television cameras were kicked out. And today, there are four to seven nuclear weapons in the hands of North Korea.

That happened on this president's watch.

Now, that, I think, is one of the most serious, sort of, reversals or mixed messages that you could possibly send."
--------------------------------------------------------

From CNN

Kerry said the U.S. should open bilateral talks with North Korea in addition to talks with the current coalition of nations -- the U.S. and five of North Korea's neighbors.

Bush thinks that's a bad idea.

"It's not going to work if we open up a dialogue with Kim Jong Il," Bush said. "He wants to unravel the six- party talks, or the five-nation coalition that's sending him a clear message."

A presidential hopeful in 2000, McCain said he thought that no U.S. president has ever proposed bilateral talks with North Korea on nuclear weapons.

North Korea has refused international demands that it dismantle its nuclear weapons program after agreeing during the Clinton administration to do so.

Kerry used the issue to question Bush's trustworthiness.

"Just because the president says it can't be done, that you'd lose China, doesn't mean it can't be done," Kerry said. "I mean, this is the president who said 'There were weapons of mass destruction,' said 'Mission accomplished,' said we could fight the war on the cheap -- none of which were true."

15. Yes I heard that replayed on AAR. Good for her.
Even little Kelly O'Donnel made me grin tonight. Kelly is the red headed smart O'Donnel...not the bimbo Norah. Anyway, tonight on the news, she kept calling him mr. bush, and since she covers him at the White House, she is all too aware of how he goes ape shit every time someone calls him mr. bush instead of president. She did it at least three times in a short paragraph, with a smile on her face. They are starting to lose their fear of him.

19. Now that you mention it. With guys he gets sarcastic and
starts to make fun of them, maybe some physical thing about them. But with women he just gets mad and pissy. Doesn't know how to handle them; probably a little uncomfortable about putting them down physically (at least in front of the cameras).

Woman, the greatest thing to happen to humans. without 'em where would we be? I'll tell ya', up a shit creek without a paddle is where. But really I thinks it is because he, bush*, feels so insecure in their presence as he may well should. imo
