UIW Library Dean Cancels NY Times Subscription In Protest
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:21 PM by mooseandsquirrel
Administrators like this dean infuriate me. As a rank & file professional librarian, this goes against everything I believe in. I am livid over this.

II (Library Bill of Rights)

Libraries should provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. Materials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.

SAN ANTONIO -- The library director at the University of the Incarnate Word has canceled the library's subscription to The New York Times to protest articles revealing a covert government program to track terrorist financing.

1. the ignorant really fall from the rafters when
the RW spin machine cranks up....Remember 'freedom fries'. The fact that SWIFT has a website AND magazine obviously hasn't made it's way through those thick skulls.

10. Private, accredited, Catholic college. Not a fundie proving ground.
This seems really bizarre for them, I hope they correct the damage to their reputation over this by doing the right thing and bouncing this "dean" out on his ass.

3. Could you edit your subject line?
In LBN posts, it should be the title of the article you have cited.

Let's hope some sane person intercedes and throws this anti-intellectual idiot out before he damages their reputation even further.

5. The University of the Incarnate Word? It seems, they at the Uof the IW
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:18 PM by flordehinojos
have very little idea of what the Incarnate Word is reall about. The Incarnate Word is never about revenge and ill feelings. It is about gentleness. It is about forgivenness. It is about wisdom. It is never about reactivity. Never about condemnation or condemning. It is never about raising one's hands to throw any stones. It is everything that this university seems not to be.

9. Some "Christians" only read selected parts of the New Testament
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:30 PM by ItsTheMediaStupid
They love the Gospel of John and Paul's letters, which are blatantly crafted to build a church and don't really reflect how I see Jesus at all.

They make sure not to read anything like blessed are the poor, etc, which I do think reflect the teaching of Jesus.

We had a service where our minister's sermon was about gays in the Bible. There are only six references, all ambiguous as Hell, to homosexuality. There are hundreds of statements about being generous with the less fortunate and other non-republican takes on Christianity, but the fundies ignore them.
