I have a bad feeling about the SCOTUS and OBL

This is very convenient time for the binladen tape, distracting the media from the significance of the supreme court decision.
Also, the tape is going bring out the wingnut jingoism at a time when the political fight will be about Iraq and the GWOT.
The repugs are going to use this decision and OBL as a hammer to pound the democrats with the 'weak on security trap'

I think in balance this had been a bad day for us, any disagreement?

In much the same way, I think Democrats desperately need to see their leaders take it to this president. He's dramatically unpopular, his war is considered an abject failure by a large majority and he's obsessed with secrecy and power. I think the concept of presidential overreach, with its echoes of Nixon, are issues that speak to the rank and file and would give the base the assurance that if the Democrats take control of the congress, the congress will take back it's constitutional perogatives and provide oversight.

8. Someone else suggested that this ruins the chances

of using him effectively as an "October surprise." His releasing the tape today means it wouldn't be nearly as effective in only a few months. And might actually backfire if they try it.
