Couric to go on a "listening tour" ! ! ! !
I think we should get ahold of that schedule and give her something to listen to!

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music/wire/sns-ap-tv-couric-tour,0,18899.story

"NEW YORK -- CBS said Thursday it is sending incoming evening-news anchor Katie Couric on a tour of several cities to meet informally with viewers this summer and hear what they're interested in seeing on the news.

One "town hall forum" is set for July 13 in Denver. Another meeting is planned for San Diego; CBS is not identifying other cities because plans are still in the works."

"The meetings will not be filmed and reporters won't be allowed in to cover them, Hartman said. Denver CBS affiliate KCNC-TV, in a news release issued Wednesday, invited people to fill out a questionnaire if they are interested in participating. One hundred people representing a cross section of the community will be invited, the affiliate said."

Hmmm I wonder how one gets one of those questionnaires?... and what they ask?

1. So they believe the news should be decided like American Idol
American media is corrupt to the bone. This dog and pony show is a PR and nothing more. They have Katie's scripts already vetted by Rove and BushCo. She will be a shameless shill for the right wing. I guarantee it!

9. When I was a child, my father would ask me what bedtime story
I'd like to hear. The Couric tour reminds me of that. Katie, I don't want to hear any GD bedtime stories. I want to know what is going on in the friggin world. Could you help us a little bit with that. You are a news reporter aren't you? Try reporting the news. Oh, I forgot, you could get fired for doing that. Hmm, something is bad wrong here.

7. Tell her to stop "shilling" for the Republican Party and the Bush
administration. That would be a great start.

4. I've got a novel answer to her question about what people
want to hear and it will save all that traveling. How about broadcasting the truth, that the U.S. Gov. has been taken over by a political coup and the MSM is fulling involved in supporting that criminal overtake. Would you broadcast that Katie? I doubt that I'm alone in wanting to hear the truth.

5. PR move to give her some credibility for her new audience?
Consider the target audience of morning/evening news. Before, she was just an inane blonde who smiled for home-bodies in the morning and now she's trying to be a serious news anchor for the people who come home from work at night.

Poor Couric. Forget my inability to take her seriously, I don't even like her voice.

6. Events should decide the content of news. It's the priorities that
matter. The news that our troops are torturing prisoners show have a higher priority that the story about a missing woman. The news that Americans are being spied upon in violation of the Constitution is more important that Rick Santorums bogus claims about found WMD's.

The news organizations know what should be shown to best cover up the sins of the administration and they faithfully follow that rule.

11. Here's a clue, CBS: NEWS! WE WANT NEWS!! In-Depth NEWS!
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 08:29 AM by WinkyDink
No more diet/fashion/tech-toys/cat-up-a-tree/promos-for-CBS-shows/"human interest" blather.
N.E.W.S.

What comprises important information is being treated BLATANTLY now as some new song: on a chart? Which demographic do we want to appeal to? Do we need a club re-mix? Let's put it on the Web for pre-play responses.

12. Boy, wouldn't THAT be a shocker?
I dream of CBS reclaiming it's throne as The News Channel. The Country is thirsty for the truth.

- then I wake up.

14. I haven't listened to her since she announced that "Navy Seals Rock!"
She makes me :puke: And shame on CBS for hiring her and overpaying her as well, much less promoting her as the voice of "main stream Americans" or whatever they are promoting her as. *disgusting*
