You know....I have just about had it with the USA
(warning: partial rant)

I love this country more than anything. But I see it falling more and more apart with each passing day. And you know, I have begun to think about saving money, putting it in gold, and think about what to do about the distant future. Whether to stick it out or think about moving elsewhere. It is going to get ugly in this country in about 20 years.

I seriously don't believe America will last to 2030. At least not in the current form that we know and love. I see the elitists have taken over the government. I see that congress and the people have absolutely no power anymore. The national debt is so high that our great-grandchildren will still be paying it off. Our school system is a joke. Health care and social security are going to go bankrupt. And our damn government doesn't give a damn how many Mexicans flood across the border. By 2026, our population will have increased 200 million people if we pass an amnesty bill and with present birth rates staying constant. Do we have the jobs, the health care, and the education to provide for a 1/2 billion people? No. If we refuse to control the amount of immigrants...this number will soar even higher. We are going to turn into a 3rd world country. The unskilled labor market will be flooded. Average wages will plummit. And the cost of living will soar.

Then our politicians have set this country up to be a capitalist-imperial empire. Bush already signed agreements with Mexico and Canada to build a NAFTA super-highway from Canada to Mexico that will be 4 football fields wide. And the government is going to use Imminent Domain to force everyone in the way of this highway to move out of their homes. And the containers that travel on this new highway will be exempt from interference of the labor unions, and exempt from EPA standards.

You can call me crazy or whatever you want. But I see the writing on the wall. America is suffering a very slow death right now. The people in power don't give a damn about the country or the people. They care about themselves and their corporations. It doesn't matter who wins the elections. The two-party system has systematically destroyed this country. Just like George Washington said it would do.

I am just so frustrated and angry about all this right now...

8. Bush doesn't scare me one bit...
Bush in my opinion is a retarded coke-head. His IQ is barely 90. He doesn't scare me at all.

But the people that control Bush...the people behind the curtain...now those people give me nightmares. Because I fully believe those people are willing to do ANYTHING to get what they want. And those people, in powerful offices, are extremely dangerous.

5. We don't have representative government any more
About 70% of the citizens want the minimum wage raised, and the bill was voted down today, and there will be no repercussions whatsoever. The GOP has about 30% approval rating, and will pick up Congessional seats again in November. Florida, Ohio, and a couple other states are basically banana republics, with the citizens having no right to vote, but having the right to kill anyone who they deem a threat.

IMO the problem begins and ends with the media skew. As soon as we get an independent media back - or at least a balanced one - the rest of the problems will go away.

10. They won't raise the minimum wage!!!
Their intention is to drive it down! They think it is too high right now. That's why they want to flood the labor market with unskilled workers. It will drive wages down. In the end, the corporations make more money.

Everything comes down to money. You follow the money and you will find the motivation.

7. Spot on- and the reality that no one wants to acknowledge is:
WE have NO representation in the houses of legislation.
They are ALL owned, with few perhaps a few exceptions,
by the same multi national corporates.

12. I feel just as much dispair and fatalism.
The US has become the universal state (or, to use a more recent term, Hegemeon) of Western Civilization, equivalent to what Rome was to Graeco-Roman Civilization. To be fair, World War 2 forced us into that position, but follwing the war our elites then started to greatly exaggerate the threat posed by the USSR in order to legitimize thier corporation-backed Neo-colonialist agenda. When Gorbachev made the Cold War rhetoric obsolete, the elites needed to find another boogeyman to scare Joe Six-Pack, and they found it on 9/11.

13. I can't see any reason why what happened to the USSR couldn't
happen to the USA. Especially given our economic activity. Someone please convince me I'm wrong.

14. "I love this country more than anything"
That's your first problem.

Love your family, friends, your life, the world we live on. The boundaries of the country are a necessity of civilization as we know it.

15. There are times I've wondered about that...
It seems like human history has been cyclical in nature by way of ups and downs. I'm a believer in nothing lasting forever and looking at our country from the beginning to now, I've often wondered if perhaps the United States has gone as far as it can go in it's current state.

The US seems like it's one big mega-corporation ran by the rich and powerful. Workers, the peasants, have in the past rose up against those in power in order to take back their rights and put everyone on equal footing.

Improving the quality of life for everyone becomes paramount rather than greed and power.

Should I give this country another election cycle or two to see if people have learned the hard lessons of the past? Or should I just say there is no hope, turn my back on the US and go to another country where hopefully those in power aren't as corrupt as this one?
