S.D. voters to decide fate of abortion ban
Voters will have the final say on South Dakota's tough new law that bans almost all abortions.

Secretary of State Chris Nelson said Monday that the law's opponents had collected enough signatures to put a question on the Nov. 7 ballot asking voters if the law should go into effect as planned or be dumped.

The state's abortion law, among the strictest in the nation, bans the procedure in all cases except when necessary to save a woman's life, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Supporters hoped it would prompt a court challenge that would give the
U.S. Supreme Courtan opportunity to overturn its 1973 Roe. v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

3. Do you mean the ban or the right to have one? I've learned anything is
possible in these United States these days.

I never imagined the day when women would backpedal to the Dark Ages and be denied the right over our own bodies again.

I would like to think the sane population of citizens in SD would prevail, but then I remember the mass hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials and also remember we are moving backward through time at an alarming rate in this country.

Women have a helluva better chance w/this vote than they did w/the woman-hating legislature.
Let's hope that sanity wins the day.

5. I think a poll had it about 60-40 against keeping the ban...
...and the governor's approval rating dropped 15 points almost immediately after he signed the bill into law.

As a ballot item, it should be overturned by a fairly safe margin. I hope.
