Imagine if we had not invaded Iraq...
Imagine Saddam Hussein had been left alone. Granted Saddam was a prick, however he was a secular sunni prick that didn't have a bloody civil war...

Imagine if the US had offered a reward of let us say 500 Million dollars to the person who brought Bin Laden's head on a tray. No questions asked...

Imagine if just half the money spent on the war so far went to productive foreign aid to those countries that are at risk for fomenting terror...in order to give them hope?

Imagine if the other half had been spent in the US to help fix healthcare, transportation and education??

Add your own....

3. Imagine We Erased Every Adverse Event In Hindsight And Posted What
could've been. Imagine how long the thread would be.

I'm in the camp of what's done is done, but what do we do now.

8. sometimes reflection helps us get a better perspective
I know a lot of former Bush voters who have been saying the very things I have because now that the war is just going and going...they see what a waste of life and money it has been...

5. I think Bush is looking forward to a global war ...
he won't be happy until the entire Asian continent is engulfed in war.

War with Iran, Syria, Korea, perhaps Pakistan and India will go at it ...

11. Why should he care. Someone has always bailed him out
He will just leave office and as always leave his endless mess behind him for some one else. And be in bed by 9 with his 'blanket'

12. If he gets his global war ...
... then he can stop pretending to be Harry Truman and start pretending to be Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (He probably already has a wheel-chair and a cigarette holder in his costume closet.)

6. Imagine if we had allowed Saddam to go into exile in Egypt
and co-opted his military, installed a friendly general, and done the same shit we did in Iran in the Mossadeq era?

Sure, it would be another cheesy dictatorship with a patina of "democracy" over it, but imagine all the lives saved on both sides of this conflict?

9. Alas, If Bush Hadn't Invaded Iraq...
In what I consider one of the uglier ironies of history, if Gee Dubya had listened to some of Daddy Bush's wiser advisers, and had decided that just like you don't eat dessert until after you finish your vegetables, you don't invade Iraq until you've settled the mess you made in Afghanistan, I fear that the Democratic Party's attempt to break the Republican Party's stranglehold on the federal and state levels of government would probably be well-nigh hopeless. The GOP would have a stronger lock on Congress and Boy George would have been re-elected by a far greater margin.

As much as I detest today's Republican Party and what today's Republican Party have done to political discourse and the nation as a whole, I have to acknowledge that they've done an all too workmanlike job in seizing control of the federal government and all too many statehouses. I fear that it's going to take something like another Great Depression or something worse to force these criminals out of office.

To the lurking right-wingers on the board, I'm NOT gloating about what your fellow "cons" and their tools in the Republican Party ahve doen to the USA and to the Constitution. However, if the Republicans and their "Conservative" allies have made such a thorough mess of things (and I believe that they have), I see no moral or ethical reason why Democrats and other people of good will shouldn't hold these conservative Republicans responsible and force them to make an accounting of themselves in open discussion and at the ballot box.

10. A Better Bargain
Mercenaries would have been a bargain at any price for Osama. And probably more focused and efficient, too.

That goes for the Mad Mullahs of Iran, and that four-foot-tall nutcase dictator in North Korea who can't wait to grow his penis to epic proportions by firing long range missiles.

Yup - maybe $500 million on mercenaries. A bargain at today's prices.

The rest of the money pissed away on the war could have helped our own country. There's plenty of causes and places for it to go - and education and health care aren't the half of it. Maybe there'd even be a little left over for that unfortunate incident fondly referred to as Katrina.

13. offering 1 billion
for OBL's head, even as a token gesture to win votes, would have been cheaper.

14. I'm beginning to think OBL is not caught because if put on trial
he would start talking about the help he got from previous administrations during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan; it could come out that he has been a CIA asset.

That's why they don't capture him. They have to kill him or not catch him.
