My personal fiscal dilemma
I have contributed to the Democratic Party in the past. I hate where this current horrific Bush Administration has taken this country. I want to defeat the Republicans with all my heart. Yet, I am reluctant to give again to a Party that I just do not see stepping up to the plate to take care of my specific concerns which are:

If the President has broken the law I expect him to be called out on it and pay the only political price allowed under the Constitution while he is a sitting President - Impeachment. So, I expect the Dems to be calling loud and long for Impeachment.

I also want to know why we went to war and how we will go about getting out of war.

I expect my vote to be counted and voting systems made secure so that I KNOW it is being counted.

I expect fringe candidates for the Supreme Court who espouse radical ideas about "unitary executives" to be filibustered and/or voted down as being unqualified.

I want affordable Healthcare for all Americans.

I'm tired of seeing some functions of the government being starved off and then "privatized" and sold off to the lowest crony bidder so that they can then plunder the American people.

I want fiscal responsibility and deficit reduction.

I want my country's moral standing in the world regained.

So, what person or what organization should I contribute to that can go the farthest in obtaining the goals I have outlined? Any ideas?

1. Any local candidate that you really like?
I know that I get bombarded with
email, snail-mail all wanting my money.

Right now I think my money will be best spent locally, and
then look at the bigger picture.

2. Look into Russ Feingold
Edited on Sun Jan-15-06 03:21 PM by Onlooker
I'm a Hillary supporter, but she's definitely trying my patience. I don't know what his chances are, but Russ Feingold really sounds like he could be good. Right now I'd still vote for Hillary (because I think the election of a woman would change the American political landscape forever), but if Hillary doesn't stop courting the right, I'll probably switch to Feingold.

4. I have lately become a Feingold fan
I think Feingold is the anti-Hillary because she tries to be ultra-moderate (Repub-lite) and drag the base screaming along in protest while Feingold just clearly espouses a liberal viewpoint with no waffling. I am thinking of financially supporting Feingold and Boxer and then if I have any left over, Conyers.

One thing Hillary and the DLC have done effectively lately is radicalize some of us who will not be dragged along with their incrementally better agendas. Screw incrementalism!!

7. I would just keep it in the Loosinhouse fund then
I just hate to think of my hard-earned dollars going to people and causes that don't support me. Me, do you hear, me! It's all about me!:-)

8. Read up on PDA that Will Pitt talks about
If you give to the DNC you are just reinforcing the existing entrenchment.

Become knowledgable yourself and fight the battle yourself. Where I am for the relegalization of laughing grass, I do not believe in using NORML or MPP as mercenaries. I give directly to the cause with my personal effort everyday. To have such a strong position, both organizations have failed miserably. They couldn't find a wet towel in the washer.

When Chavez makes imperialism stick in regards to the US, everybody thinks its a bad thing, yet some how it is acceptable to be an imperialist if you are a Democrat.

Hold the party to some kind of standard. The keyword for our times is Empire. You should defeat that statement or accept it and go from there. Drug warriors are inevitably Empire builders, because the drug war exist primarily as a tool of Empire. But what makes the drug war worse than the illegal war in Iraq, is that it is a war on ourselves, and if you ask me, just as illegal and immoral.

The biggest player in the trade of illegal drugs is the CIA. Defeat that statement if you can and ask how the drug warriors don't go after them. That should illuminate the biggest problem before the country which is Empire- kind of like taboo or not taboo or to Empire or not to Empire. Okay, same coin, different sides.

9. stopped general giving
I stopped giving to the party along time ago. I now only give to specific individuals that I support.

10. I think you're right and that is the tack to take
everyone talks about how Hillary is such a DLC money machine - it would be nice if the money started supporting SPECIFIC people like Feingold and Boxer. Ok, sorry DNC and Howard- no more moolah from me.

Russ Feingold - tonight I am going to look up your website and give money to you because even though you are not my Senator - you are doing a heck of a better job for me personally than the one I have. I hope yoou will understand that this is the reward for doing the right thing without knowing if it would work to your advantage or not.
