Really.

Well, Ben got released today. He may even play in eight weeks.

Hell, I thought it was over for him.

SO - You never know.

It is a whole new day at this point. And we are on top.

Take a breath.

Joe

1. I'm glad he's okay BUT
1) he needs to stop calling himself Big Ben, since that is Ben Wallace's nickname, and

2) I hope that as soon as he is able, he immediately sets about getting the motorcycle law back to where it was - REQUIRED. In fact, I hope he goes on a 50-state blitz.

2. Quite possible.
He released a statement today and said if he ever rides a motorcycle again, it will be with a helmet. I would look for him to be an advocate for it.

And Big Ben....he's big, and his name is Ben. The Steeler fans gave him that name, he really had no choice. ;-) :hi:

3. Well, at the minimum...
I'm pretty sure he's never ever ever ever riding without a helmet again.

4. Disagree with #2 for the same reason I disagree with seatbelt laws.
Not wearing a helmet/seatbelt doesn't endanger anybody else. People shouldn't be required to wear this protection if they don't want to.

8. I disagree with that for a variety of reasons

starting with other parties who are involved in motorcycle accidents. In this case, I believe the accident was not his fault, but if it were and it were fatal, you would be burdening another human being with having been involved with a death rather than an injury, not to mention the emergency services that need to be available, etc., etc. My brother and I had a conversation about this recently and he actually agreed with me (if you knew my brother you would know this is rare) when I was telling him about a slew of fatal accidents north of us, where traffic on both sides of the highway was diverted or stopped for HOURS because the accidents were fatal. If they hadn't been, they would have swept up and traffic would have moved on. Because they were fatal (in those instances, it was because people were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from their cars) thousands of people were affected for many, many hours.

10. Perhaps, then, we should just outlaw motorcycles.
...and a host of other things that can cause the user's death if not handled carefully...

It's just one more government regulation that doesn't do anything but protect a person from his/her self. I don't agree with laws that exist for that purpose.

9. I'm a Browns fan and I remember reading a Browns forum...
When Kevin Winslow injured his knee in a motorcyle accident, and there was a flood of HAHA BROWNS SUCK WINSLOW SHOULD HAVE DIED posts. That was when I knew people took sports too seriously. I hope Ben is 100% healthy in week 10 when my Brownies improved team kick his ass this way to Sunday. :-)
