Goodbye to the Canada I know and love :-(
Looks more and more like conservative leader Steven Harper will be elected in the coming federal elections. I of course will vote Liberal for what little good it will do. If he does get elected and forms a conservative minority, or god forbid a majority, we will be Bush 2.0 up here. If he's elected we can only hope for a weak minority government in which his hands are all but tied behind his back with having to work with The Bloc.

2. How did this happen? Doesn't the average Canadian see what
conservatives are doing to the USA? Maybe it's a hemisphere things. The southern hemisphere seems to be going liberal. But not Canada! Good luck up there!

5. The problem is that the Liberals really screwed up... That much...
I agree with. They were caught in an election ad campaign fraud case where about 200 million dollars was wasted or given to "friends". Many people are sick of the liberals and just want a change, ANY CHANGE. But voting for Harper is like voting for Hitler because your current government is corrupt and he's the only other option. Then of course we have our own not so small conservative community who actually like Harper.

15. Harper is NOT like Hitler because he hasn't killed 6,000,00....
I see what you're saying, but I just HAD to throw that in before one of the "worshippers" of Godwin's Law took you to task...:)

I heard a report the other day that the feeling up North is that if the Liberals stay in that Canada will "become like the US". How, they didn't explain. I don't get it, either.

I think it was bullshit Rove-Speak designed to make your average Murkan Sheep feel good about Bush V2.0 getting installed in the Dominion

How bad will Harper have to make it before he gets the boot?
For me, I see that I just lost one option should it become time to get the hell out of Murka.

Come to America when you're tired of conservative rule...oh wait...

Seriously though, I've read that another minority government will be elected but that was a few weeks ago.

6. sad...

When I left Toronto a few years ago, I told my friends there that the country was getting close to a Right turn. The Commonwealth 'civility', i.e. moderacy that everyone is supposed to conform to, was starting to break down in rural Ontario. It was a lot like the shift I saw growing up in New England in the Seventies and Eighties.

I hope it expends itself quickly, but there's a lot of political anger and frustration and resentment and bigotry out there in the Canadian exurbs and small towns.

8. oh my, now I'm depressed again...
I was trying to forgot about this..I want to live in denial tonight...
my hubby and I are so upset about this....

so many dummy voters, so little time:

1. Friend of mine - her neighbor
..I'm voting conservative cause the liberals have been in power too long
(this is an older woman needing social services) :banghead:

2. Another one of her friends - voting conservative cause she says
they will give corporations more tax cuts which will result in more jobs
for people - O.M.G. :dunce:

Canada has one of the best, if not 'the best' economies of the G7, Unemployment
is LOW, and this is what Canadians want to do with our Surplus - hand it over
to war loving conservatives. Now I'm upset again...I need a coffee..too late to
bloody drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. To all the Canadians upset tonight--

sorry this is all I can offer. It doesn't make sense to me that a country with as much good going for it as yours would want to turn from that for a 'change.' Those seeking a change should move down here to see exactly how good they presently have it in Canada...

Again, so sorry guys. My heart truly breaks for you! :grouphug:

13. Harper actually said he wanted to up the army - and put army people
in our cities on standby. Interesting that he didn't touch the notion or paint the picture of what our army would be doing in reality... outside the country..perpetual war that takes longer than it needs to.

Harper put the picture of soldiers.. into pictures of our cities... so a worry would not be triggered.

IMHO.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig!

Actually his platform is like a soft cloud. He will kindly introduce all his cabinet and they will wear sandals to Parliament hill and speak like Liberals. And likely will be implemented as Harper himslef blows in the wind like a happy baloon (what the hell medication is he on?). And once they have secured some more trust - then they go for another election...and get a majority. Once they have a majority - boom. Down it coms. Health care will be stopped. Taxes will be cut to ensure that instead of the best educated grandkids of the wealthiest generation.. there will instead be the biggest & richest elites ever created. And the world will divide into two in Canada. Middle class are just too dam expensive. :sarcasm: If you get rid of the middle class - you get rid of inflation :sarcasm:

14. *IF* somehow harper did win
He couldn't follow through with even half his promises. There is no WAY there would be a con. majority, it isn't even a possibility with the way the numbers are coming in at this point. With a minority, the second he tried to touch the budget, it would be an automatic confidence vote.

Instead of whining about it we need to teach people the problems with strategic voting. You know, the problems we had LAST election? Yeah.
