3. it's gonna be a long time comin'...
just judging by all the trucks transporting goods out on the roads...whole lotta people out there gotta eat, dress, live somewhere, be entertained, get around.
my wife is busy as hell at work for the past several months and the foreseeable future.

Glad to hear that your immediate family is doing ok with lots of work for the "foreseeable future." What field? War related?

12. my wife does graphic design...
her company does business/hotel services.

and i know plenty of people whose jobs are going just fine.

people have been predicting the next crash is right around the corner for near as long as i can remember.

and yet people keep on living, and the world keeps turning.

27. it's not really the 'travel industry' that she's in
business services would probably be the main moniker.

21. How can I get on board with that?
My husband's been unemployed for four months and counting. He's only had 4 interviews in that time, no jobs yet.

Glad to know someone's still busy at work, but by no means is that an indicator of how the nation is doing at large.

11. Plot summary...
"The year is 1998. Due to huge crime rates, the United States turns its once great city of New York into a maximum security prison where hardcore criminals are put for life. All the bridges leading into the city are mined, a large wall is built along the shoreline and a large police force army is based there to stop or kill any attempted escapees. En route to a conference, the President, on board Air Force One, is forced to eject in a pod when a female terrorist takes over the controls and crashes the plane into a building. A new prisoner, ex-soldier Snake Plissken is offered his freedom if he goes in, frees the President and finds a tape with important information for the conference. Snake agrees but to ensure his co-operation he is injected with a small but powerful explosive that will only be destroyed if his mission is successful. Snake must set out into the decaying city, filled with immoral criminals, and he must succeed - for his own life."

And the President is a complete asshole.

Which is why I said that Shrubbie won't have a Snake this time.

8. My husband has been laid off since February
FINALLY got a job, after a bunch of "promising" leads that went nowhere. Unfortunately, the job doesn't start until July, but at this point I'm just thrilled he found SOMETHING.

It's damn rough out here for us "little people".

17. nonconformist's story will be more common sometime soon
I've always said things would cycle back around. I used to say investing in real estate was solid as a rock. Not anymore.

I'm no expert, but I got the gold boom of 1980 right. I can't see how inflation can be avoided. The prime symptom is the fed's hiding of the M3. Inflation HAS to increase. And considering our economic house of cards -I wonder if it wont rise a lot.

18. Real estate's bottom is going to fall out of it.
Gold won't do either, price is too high to invest, and bonds will be worthless if the gov. is broke. We are screwed.

19. I've got out of credit debt and downsized.
I almost sold my house, but the market cooled just before I tried. Anyway, high house prices have pushed rents WAY up. Everyone wants to rent houses now cuz mortgages are un affordable.

I did buy but wish I had bought it a year+ ago when I started to recognize it should go up. I still think it will go WAY up if there's a collapse/depression. I have never have said that type of thing before. These are strange times. The closest I came to saying that is warning against NAFTA and the free trade policies. Well, outsourcing and off-shoring happened. But the wild card was the IT boom.

Here's hoping for wild cards!

Operations analyst, officially. He got laid off from that job a few years ago, and nothing's been the same since - he's done customer service for the phone company and worked as a recruiter in a temp agency, the latter of which is the job he just lost.

I'm a freelance writer. So one thing we really need right now, aside from a job for him, is some health insurance!

25. Well it's good that you're a liberal!
You're in the right place -with people who would love to see you guys succeed with the basics at least.:toast:

I get so discouraged seeing unemployed/uninsured people who are spouting the corporate line. Blue collar and union members too. It just deflates any hope I'm trying to muster when I try to reason with their conservative statements....
