Dispatches from the Take Back America Conference: What's a progressive?
At TBA with Dave and Bob: What is a Progressive?

Carol Sharick is a mom, an administrative support staffer at a small liberal arts college, a blogger, and a local activist.

At the Democracy Cell Project (http://www.democracycellproject.net) we know her dry sense of humor and level-headed commentary. She was selected by the progressive community as the best entrant in Campaign for America's Future "What is a progressive?" contest.
Here is her winning entry:
"A progressive is someone who understands that it is the people of our country who make it great, and unless we take care of the people first, we'll never be successful in maintaining our greatness. Taking care of the people means providing healthcare for everyone. It means keeping the environment clean, safe and preserved. It means great schools and great jobs. It means improving the lives of families, rather than lining the pockets of big business, or big politicians. It means taking care of each other here, and around the world. We're all in this together."
Carol is sitting next to me at the Bloggers' Row table. She is here as a special guest of Take Back America. We talked:
DCP: Carol, what about your entry stood out for the voters?
Carol: I think it encompassed most of the things that we care about: the people and making our country a better place for all of us to be.
DCP: How do you think the progressives in this country can best move the issues that are so important to us forward?
Carol: I think the most important thing for us to do is to get out there and talk about it. Don't be afraid of what you think people are thinking, but just talk about the issues and how people are being affected. Focus on that and not party politics.
