Next up: Flag Burning Amendment
NYT Editorial

One Down, One to Go

Now that the Republican leaders in the Senate have finished wasting the nation's time over a constitutional ban on gay marriage, we're bracing for Act Two of the culture-war circus that the White House is staging to get out the right-wing vote this fall.

Senator Bill Frist, the majority leader, plans to continue to set aside work on pressing issues facing the country to vote on yet another unworthy constitutional amendment — a prohibition on burning the American flag.
.....
Senator Harry Reid, the minority leader, should be rallying Democrats to join the small handful of principled Republicans so far willing to oppose the amendment. But as things stand, he is among the Democrats who plan to vote for this constitutional vandalism. Opponents of the amendment, like Senator Patrick Leahy, Democrat of Vermont, are standing on firm ground in trying to protect the Bill of Rights from an election-year stunt.

It is the patriotic thing to do.

Harry Reid. Will any other Democrats value a symbol of freedom more highly than the freedom it symbolizes?

1. God Guns Gays and Old Glory
Anyone who thinks that there is no way that the execution of Zarqawi was not deliberately timed to coincide with the Republican propaganda barrage designed to turn around their looming political disaster in november is delusional.

But it is early - only June. We have months before the damn election. What else do they have planned?

4. Slavery?
"Christian Conservatives" in America would camp out for weeks near the polling places if the republicans proposed to legalize slavery. Maybe a labor day announcement by frist and bush??

9. I am truly amazed that every Sunday
they forget to go out and stone to death everyone who is working as they are instructed to do so in the same book that tells them to hate homosexuals. Surely they would not just pick and choose in the bible the passages they wish to abide by? Surely not!

11. While working retail, I have been told on many occasions
that I was on "the wrong path" because I was working on a Sunday, and that I really needed to change my ways.

This, from CUSTOMERS!!!!

"Dude, you're shopping on a Sunday! You got some issues to work out of your own!"

3. I'm disgusted with Reid.
This is truly a dangerous little amendment, and what is the minority leader doing? Supporting the piece of shit. I've never burned or desecrated an American flag, but I can't think of a more overt political statement. It absolutely is protected political speech. Not to mention that we hardly have an epidemic of flag burning/desecration going on. And thank you Senator Leahy for leading on this one.

13. Usually as a form of protest
For example to express complete disgust with the programs and policies of the government. It is an exercise in free speech which is generally protected by the first amendment, not that that means very much anymore.

14. Please, Tennesee, VOTE FRIST OUT OF OFFICE!
THAT'S the patriotic thing to do! Get that asshole out of office, then we can return the senate to focusing on, you know, important issues.
