It just strikes me as false. You can only cry wolf so many times. I'm going to bed now.

3. Nah, I think they actually got him
General George Casey said Zarqawi's body was identified through fingerprints and facial recognition.

4. And known scars, and DNA testing to be accomplished.
The degree of certitude is striking considering that they weren't certain what this guy look like until a short while ago.

12. None of the previous reports ever had confirmation
Or any kind of specificity or detail. In this case there's enough info including the house, how many also were killed, and the identification of the body to make the reports *way* more credible than anything previously. To simply dismiss them out of hand entirely, to me, is getting into tin foil hat territory.

13. Hardly matters
I don't believe either, but 13 more Iraqis died this morning. Zarqawi was not the problem -the invaders are the problem.

In a bad comedy routine for the entertainment of the morans.

16. Good answer.
On Sunday, the newspaper had a list of 14 times that the president has made a "we've turned the corner" statement. The American public no longer buys this from him. If he does so this morning, and the violence continues at the same rate in Iraq, the American public will continue to turn against Bush's policies.

And, as you point out, in Iraq, the problem is the Bush-Cheney policy. It seems unlikely that the deaths of a couple of men -- even if they were who our government identifies them as being -- is going to result in the Iraqi people finding pleasure in being occupied territory. Islamic culture shares little connection to the Halliburton culture that our country is attempting to impose.

17. In fact, thousands of Iraqis will be PISSED about his death.
This solves nothing, his death is irrelevant.

20. He's dead, and good riddance
He was a murderous thug. I hope he burns in hell. Just because he hated Bush too doesn't make him my buddy. There's a difference between resistance to foreign occupation and butchery. And he was a butcher.

The evidence in this case is pretty clear, and even the most skeptical Arab media have accepted it.

28. becuase they went much further than they needed to
whenever they have lied before, they tend to just lightly put the idea down and then walk away as fast as possible. This time they have made a large statement and are pushing it hard.

31. I'm sorry. I'm just not buying it.
He's a truly evil man who is not in the least bit interested in freedom for the Iraqi people, and he's a terrorist.

But just because there is a corporate media noise machine today that says its true, I just can't believe that it's a fact. I just can't.

27. crying wolf

Crying wolf affects the credibility of someone purporting to report facts -- but it simply does not affect the facts, whatever they are.

Rejecting a report of facts simply because of who reports them is as silly as believing everything one hears.

The widespread "bullshit" reaction here at DU to the report of the conspiracy in Canada to attack public places and persons is an excellent case in point of the foolishness of rejecting facts for reasons having nothing to do with the facts.
