2. Interesting.
If the proposed amendment is about "civil rights" then where are my rights?

10. He said it's "about" civil rights, not "in favor of".
So technically, he might not have been lying.

And of course, the Backwashin'Bush BASE firmly believes it has a Civil Right
to oppress and demonize anyone different from them,
so maybe that was the "civil right" he meant?

7. Of course he's right. It is a civil rights matter. Why are they drawing
attn to the fact that they want to deny civil rights to others?

8. Civil Rights Issue = Discrimination Issue
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 01:51 PM by AndyA
If the Marriage Amendment is a civil rights issue, then it is prohibited under the Constitution - you know, that G*d damned piece of paper Bush wipes his ass with. And if it's a civil rights issue, it SCREAMS discrimination the moment you start telling a group of American citizens they can't do something that the rest of America can do.

It's the same thing as being told you have to sit at the back of the bus, use a different rest room, or can't drink from a particular water fountain. Discrimination is wrong, it's ugly, and it should never be tolerated in an educated society that knows better.

11. That's rather...unique
We can turn that one around on them in a heartbeat. Yeah, it's a civil rights issue. Gay people should have the same tax rights, inheritance rights, hospital visitation rights, funeral service visitation rights as heterosexuals. What a nimrod.

14. No wonder he was named press secretary
I say we get an amendment together limiting heterosexual white males to their proportional number in all public office. They can have no more than 35% of seats in Congress. This country should not be forced to pander to a minority which forces their rule over others by virtue of their gender, their race, and the direction their peepee points.

20. You mean like: Civil rights means that they are civil, and they are right
If you are given civil rights, it means you have civility, in a righteous way.

On the other hand, whose civil rights are violated by *not* allowing someone else to marry the person they love?
