Robertson-owned plane crashes (he wasn't on board)
To quote a phrase..."Missed it by that much!"

2 killed, 3 rescued in Long Island Sound crash

GROTON, Conn. --A Learjet owned by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson crashed in Long Island Sound while trying to land in heavy fog Friday, killing the two pilots and injuring three passengers, the Coast Guard said. Robertson was not aboard.

The rescued passengers were able to get out of the plane on their own and were taken to a hospital for minor injuries, state police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance said.

The plane went down a half-mile short of the runway at Groton-New London Airport, authorities said. Preliminary information showed that the plane may have hit one of several approach lights mounted in a cove near the airport, said Christopher Cooper, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.

The names of the people on the plane were not immediately released, but authorities said the three men who survived are in their 50s. The cause of the accident was not known Friday evening.

3. Mrs R was working near there today. She said you couldn't
see your hand in front of your face down near the water, the fog was so thick.

Another example of a pilot trying to be a hotdog and land when he should be sensible enough to divert, IFR or no IFR.

7. The plane was being chartered out....
...for profit by a Robertson holding company....the news release is careful to point out that while the planes destination was Foxwoods casino the passengers were going there for a "charity golf tournament"-not GASP-gambling,And I'm sure the two passengers dropped off at Atlantic City on the way are engaged in other "charitable works"....After all the Reverend would NEVER let an asset taken from the proceeds of his flock be used in games of the Devil (unless-The Price Was Right.).....

10. If indeed it was chartered, it was probably regulated by a FAR-135.
Generally speaking, FAR-135 is more rigorous than FAR-91 (under which most corporate flight departments operate, although individual corporate standards might be higher than the airline standard, FAR-121). Training, maintenance, line-checks, crew duty limitations, and more are controlled at different levels by FAR-91, FAR-135, and FAR-121.

BTW: FAR = Federal Aviation Regulation
