KENNEDY TO SENSENBRENNER: LEAVE NO VET BEHIND!
Democratic congressional candidate Bryan Kennedy today blasted Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. for his unacceptable response to the needs of our Korean War Veterans. “As we end our Memorial Day weekend, remembering those who have died to protect our freedoms, Jim Sensenbrenner ought to be ashamed of himself for ignoring those who fought so valiantly in Korea half a century ago,” exclaimed Kennedy.
On Sunday, May 28th, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Sensenbrenner for six years has refused to advance bills within the House Judiciary Committee which would give the Korean War Veterans Association a federal charter. Sensenbrenner has thrown out H.R. 952 (107th Congress), H.R. 1043 (108th Congress), and has thus far has ignored H.R. 3476 (109th Congress). A federal charter would allow for better advocacy for the specific needs of Korean War veterans within the Veteran’s Administration. Members of the Korean War Veterans Association have repeatedly been ignored by Sensenbrenner’s office when this matter has been brought to their attention.
Kennedy, whose father is a Vietnam-era Army veteran, said, “We must honor the needs of all veterans and empower groups such as the Korean War Veterans Association with the tools they need to advocate for their members. Who better to advocate for the specific needs of veterans of the Korean War than the Korean War Veterans Association? Veterans of every war deserve this federal charter. Shame on Jim Sensenbrenner for denying them that right!”
Kennedy is running to replace Jim Sensenbrenner in Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District. The 5th Congressional District includes all of Ozaukee and Washington counties, and portions of Milwaukee, Jefferson and Waukesha counties.
