If you can't beat 'em...
From the state of Kansas comes the interesting news that the state's Republican Party Chairman has switched parties as has the District Attorney from Kansas City who plans to run for Leiutenant Governor. Both defections to the Democratic Party reflect a sharp drop in the confidence of the electoral opportunities in the Republican Party.
This is the state that has tried unsuccessfully for years to unseat Democrat Dennis Moore, a moderate that keeps winning elections in a Republican-dominated district. The state Republican party has been unable to win the close races for sometime. It appears that, since the backlash against the Republican Party is now being felt at a local level, elected officials are switching to back the winning horse.
This type of upheaval could portend big gains for Democrats in the November elections. We must continue to work hard, keeping the pressure on this administration and the national Republican party with an unrelenting focus on the continued failure of the Bush White House.
Democrats have an agenda for returning our country to the right track, and it starts with governing for everyone, not just the privileged few. We have an economic program that improves access to health care and promotes good paying jobs. We will restore honor and trust in our government and that is why we are beginning to see more and more people drawn to the Democratic Party.
