FBI Kept File On Comedian Richard Pryor...
Pryor's Priors

From: Timothy Noah
Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 6:47 PM ET
Below and on the following four pages are footnoted excerpts from Richard Pryor's file at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, apparently created when the comedian gave some money to the Black Panther party. The file has not previously been made public. Thanks to Washington-area researcher Michael Ravnitzky for ferreting it out. To read the footnotes, roll your mouse over the portions highlighted in yellow. To download Pryor's complete FBI file in .pdf format-link:http://www.slate.com/id/2142381/entry/2142382/

1. I'm shocked, SHOCKED! (Not)
Not at all surprised they surveilled Richard Pryor, he was a highly popular and influential media personality in the '70s. Ditto John Lennon, Paul Newman, Dick Gregory and all the many outspoken antiwar crowd of the era. Power to the People, ya'll.

3. I think they kept files and spied on anyone who had a certain amount
of influence or visibility.

4. Maybe the FBI was just keeping track of Pryor's jokes
He was pretty funny guy, you know.

Just kidding, just kidding. It's outrage that the FBI would spy on some one like Pryor. :grr:

I just wonder what Americans are being spied on by the FBI today? Are we going to have to wait 30 years to find out?

5. We need more regulation of govt spying, not less.
It makes us safer if law enforcement has to spy on the people who are actually violent.

6. Meanwhile, a man who lied us into an illegal invasion, has cost us
hundreds of billions, has gotten thousands wounded and killed and has earned us the most hated nation on the planet wanders around on his bicycle, occasionally falling, bruising himself and going unhindered.
