Dixie Chicks "Taking The Long Way" Will Be The #1 Record This Week
Edited on Tue May-23-06 09:44 PM by Mark E. Smith
Sony is estimating CD sales will end up somewhere between 190,000 and 225,000.
Best Buy alone will account for over 50,000 scans, or approximately 30%.

How do I know this? I work in the music industry for a big old label. So no links, you'll
just have to trust me on this.

It's a lock. It won't even be close. SoundScan will come out next Wednesday, and the
whining from the right will reach histrionic proportions. The stranglehold they have held
over the popular media will be shattered by this news, and they ain't gonna like it.

Starting to see a trend here? All those things the Right hates are suddenly becoming
very popular. The entertainment business will follow, just like it always does.

THAT'S the one that's at number 9 on Amazon.

(The new one is at #1 on Amazon, of course!) :)

13. SoundScan won't list catalog titles in their Top 200
Otherwise you'd still see Pink Floyd and Led Zep titles all over the place.

But I'll bet "Home" gets a hell of a spike on the catalog charts!

is looking for a loyal base of NEW fans...! should be no problem, the Chicks caved initially because of right-wing smear campaign then said fuck-em...we're right and sticking with their opinions -- and they right...!

I got a copy today, go girls, I bought my first Chicks' CD today along with Neil Young's; "Let's impeach the president.

48. Jackson Browne is not MIA.
He released a new album late last year called "Solo Acoustic Vol. 1". There's a song on the album "Lives in the Balance" that was written during the reign of Bush 1 but is reworked to be appropriate today. Last week I saw a great anti-war video that used this song. Check it out.

9. And freakin' Reba just dissed them on the Country Music Awards.
Don't ask why we're watching them. I keep on switching to the Mets game during commercials, but hubby likes the awards shows.

Anyhow, Reba just quipped how it was a good thing the Dixie Chicks weren't performing there tonight because they'd be singing with their foot in their mouths.

We both pledged to go out and both buy a copy of the album tomorrow.

Thanks, Reba!

36. And thus explains why I'd rather set myself on fire
and crawl naked through a swimming pool full of double-edged razor blades than watch that harridan do anything other than play a gun-bunny on the original Tremors movie. I don't listen to her caterwauling, I don't watch her STUPID sit-com, and I sure as hell ain't interested in listening to her spew venom at her betters.

If their "award" show doesn't include the Chicks, it's for second-raters anyway.

47. I saw that, too
She said that she wasn't sure how the hosting gig would go before she showed up and then said something like, "Well, if the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouth, I can sure host an awards show." I immediately thought two things: "Backwasher" and "I'm buying their CD just because you made that dumbass comment."

Edited on Tue May-23-06 10:19 PM by faithnotgreed
you have to spend any money

but if theres one song in particular you like then by all means download one song
i would imagine if you buy one of their singles (like "not ready to make nice") then that goes into top singles category

if you would enjoy the cd or if you would like to give it as a gift then thats great too
but we can request our local stations play their songs
also we can share their music -and our support of them - with people we know so there are plenty of ways that dont have to include money

did you see them last night on letterman
i was able to dl the quicktime video from a link here on du

She deserves some kind of award just for "Dear Mr. President," although the whole album is very, very good.

The Chicks' new cd is very, very good. Vintage Chicks with just a little less steel guitar and Natalie Texas twang.

HITS can be off base from time to time. And they do tend to enjoy massaging the egos of those who advertise with them. And that would include Sony labels such as Columbia.

But hell, if they're right and I'm wrong, I'll be happy!

38. To be quite honest ...
... the record biz is just a shell of its former self. Between illegal downloads, rampant CD burning, pirating, plus the general indifference to our products by the vast majority of American citizens, things just ain't what they used to be.

So is Sony happy with the 200,000 or so Dixie Chicks sales to go along with their #1? My guess is that they're fucking ecstatic.

They had three or four racks specifically for the new DC release. THey were empty when I got to the store around 7:30 pm. Another person was looking for it as well and asked one of the employees. He went in the back and brought out another dozen copies. Two more people came up and got copies before I got to the register.

44. They have proven themselves over time -- why the sour grapes?
There cds and songs certainly haven't been forgotten in a year.

They have been well known nationally for a decade, and have incredible musical talent. They have had immense critical and public acclaim.

Why are you on all the Dixie Chick threads knocking them down? I don't get it....

And, maybe you better recheck the definition of iconic, because they do, indeed, meet it... as well as the word icon.

34. "Radical Chicks" My god that Time magazine cover says a lot
There is nothing radical about being ashamed of the Bush administration, the majority of Americans are ashamed of this administration. I am a radical in the traditional sense of the word (which means to go to the root of the problem), but this move by Time to make it appear opposing Bush is a radical idea is just over the top and says a lot about the magazine and their political leanings.

46. Media is entertainment based...TV and the News...
And they are lead by a nose ring made of money....where every the public throws the money at....so goes the media...including our news. If it is profitable to be liberal and progressive...the media will be too...

For the past ten years it was profitable to lean to the right. Until rabid corporate conservatives started whining. (Thanks Newt) Then the extreme right thought it was about them and their "wonderful" ideology. they were wrong (as usual) So not the gooey cream filled center of responding to the rabid right and are moving away taking their dollars with them. True to form the media is moving with them.

It is no longer fashionable to be "conservative".

anyway the roots of country music are Scottish, Irish ballads mixed with Black folk music. The old stuff is weird and wonderful.
