Muslims in Azerbaijan protest “Da Vinci Code’

BAKU - Muslim leaders in Azerbaijan called for protests against the film “The Da Vinci Code” on Tuesday, saying the film version of the best-selling book insulted all believers.

“The relevant Azeri authorities must ban showing this film and also end sales of the book,” Gadzhiaga Nuriyev, head of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, told AFP.

“Lack of respect for the feelings of believers, whether they are Muslims, Christians or representatives of other world religions, is inadmissable.”

Lala Abbasova, a parliamentary deputy and member of the legislature’s committee on science and education, also said: “This film should not appear on state television channels and should be listed as a banned film throughout Azerbaijani territory.”

2. Religion banning art...
ironically, one of the themes of the Da Vinci Code. But, hey, reminds me of the religious motto: "why read 'em when you can burn 'em?"

4. One: it's a work of fiction; and Two: I am sick and tired of religionists
telling the rest of us what to read, watch, believe, etc. Go worship your god by yourself and leave the rest of us alone. I don't give a rodent's rectum what you believe, just do it quietly.

8. Works of fiction can evoke outrage on both sides
If it had been a 'detective' style novel about how gays were the way they were due to stresses in their lives I am sure we here would be upset (especially if it was made into a movie).

5. So.. their religious nuts are standing with our religious nuts
saying, basically, the book/movie hurts their feelings... Beheadings all around! Fire up the Crusades! Burn the witches! Burn anyone who thinks Jesus got a booty call!
