Instead, they said things like "Well, that should be something we look into, but I don't know about making it a criminal violation."

The dems were proposing a $10,000 fine companies that knowingly hired an undocumented worker. The repubs squawked like they'd been gut stuck! Why, that could BANKRUPT a company, they said. Uh, doesn't that just mean it would work? (punitive, deterrent, and all)
