I can not say this strongly enough.....WE NEED TO THANK USA TODAY.
Please let's show a good old fashioned barnstorming of appreciation to this newspaper DU style.

They didn't put this on page A-18. They blasted a huge two page spread. It has shook the world. This will be sending poll numbers through the floor. It will torpedo Hayden's nomination. This will be the fire that can't be put out.

The corporate communications giants may be faced with a $1,000 fine for every name they put out for their greedy fucking profit.

It may be the lie to Congress Gonzalez can be nailed with. He will not be able to comport his testimony with this blockbuster leak.

This paper deserves a monster show of appreciation from us here. I could care less about the number of recommendations because it's my post.

I want this paper to know they have just made America mind boggling proud, and may have broken the camels back.

You can email them here.................... http://feedbackforms.usatoday.com/marketing/feedback/feedback-online.aspx?type=18

You may even have your email selected for publishing as a letter to the editor..... DON'T LET THIS GO UN-REWARDED DU !!!!!

2. Kicked and recommended - I will send them a thank you today!
This is a great idea - if the media figures out we want HONEST, ACCURATE news (what a concept!) they may do it if their circulation or ratings numbers improve. They will go where the money is, I think the corporate ownership knows Bush has entered the final chapter of his political power. There is no capital, he has used it all up at this point.

3. Pssst! This is their job. I admit none of the biggies (NYT, WP, etc.) have
done anything like this for the American people. But this is the only reason for their existence. To inform and report.

I agree, since they alone reported this they are due some thanks but look how desperate and needy we've become. They do their job and we feel the need to grovel.

10. There is one difference.
Never before in history has printing the truth been under literal threat of spending time in prison.

Almost unquestionably, this roadkill in the White House is going to be ruthlessly intimidating them with subpoenas to divulge how they acquired this information.

Despite knowing this is already taking place with the New York Times, they still pulled his black curtain back as far as it would go and showed this prick to the world.

That's not thanking them for doing their job. That's thanking them for courage beyond belief.

23. No, if truth be told that's thanking them for being a GOOD
CITIZEN AND SHOWING PROPER PATRIOTISM. Something we all should be doing. Millions took our chances with jail a long long time ago. I guess it's time again. But where to begin, where to start???

9. These papers withheld information before the 04 election
Edited on Fri May-12-06 05:46 AM by ray of light
and so it's hard to congratulate them for doing their job properly, but we must! I imagine a few more of Bush's henchmen will be stalking USA Today now as well as Colbert. I wonder if Colbert's roast (truth telling) had anything to do with this sudden 'real journalism'.

(Actually, they did more than withhold information...they participated in the coverup of the W.H.'s Plame treason and they perpetuated every myth about John Kerry any liar or spin magician could cook up.)

17. The only way they want to be thanked...
is to have people buy advertising and/or their paper. Sorry to by such a cynic, but the only reason I believe some papers are starting to publish *some* things now is because public opinion is so low on this regime & the papers (Gannett, in this case) know that they can sell newspapers. So...if you email them, tell them you bought their paper & you support their advertisers because they are breaking stories like this one. That will make them more likely to continue to do so.

21. I don't believe in thanking the media for doing it's job.
The thankyou could be takent the wrong way anyway....as in "Oh...this person is clearly partisan and they're thanking us profusely. Perhaps we were too off center with our story".

Thank you for covering the NSA phone database as the headline story yesterday. USA Today is picking up in journalism where a lot of other papers are leaving off. I have a newfound respect for your paper.
