Local: Anybody know anything about the multiple shootings in Fairfax, VA?
Automatic weapons, white male in camaflouge, ski-mask, several policemen shot? Know one on the news channels (Wash. metro area) seem to be able to keep the story straight. It goes from a black pick-up truck to a white van? Just thought some of you might have better info.

1. I'm about 3 miles from the site.
Local news doesn't seem to have much, but the Channel 4 reporter who was just on sounded and looked like she was fighting back tears. This could be ugly.

5. It took place in a Fairfax Police Station in Chantilly
They're taking the victims to Inova Fairfax.

Can you imagine what rush hour is like right now out there on 50?

11. I just wrote a letter to the Fairfax Chief of Police today
Three of his finest helped me out in a terrible situation a couple of months ago, and I wanted the letter to be placed in their sleeves.

I have never been so impressed as I was with the Fairfax police, and the Alexandria police are really wonderful, but these three officers were like they dropped out of heaven just to make things all right for me in a horrendous event.

These officers even called me a couple of days later and left messages, to find out how I was doing. Imagine that.

God, I hope it's not any of those officers...........

12. A female police officer/detective is dead, they are saying on NBC4
Edited on Mon May-08-06 04:49 PM by MADem
The sniper has been killed. Unconfirmed at this point, but believed reliable. There are reports that there may be a second sniper. All shots were fired from outside the building.

On edit--there is a second police officer wounded.

They are playing audio of the presser at Inova Fairfax Hospital now.

13. I have a couple of high school buddies who are Fairfax cops.
We're all in our mid-50s, so they are more on admin duties these days. I'll be close by the tube tonight. Shit! Channel 4 in Washington just reported that one female officer has died.

1 suspect dead, one suspect at large. My oldest son was supposed to have baseball practice out that way this evening, but we got rained out.

24. Gonna be a long night for you, I fear.....
Channel 4 says the police officers are moving with guns drawn.

One at large, yes.

And John Muhammed is questioning potential jurors for his Maryland trial.

This is just so awful. I hope your wife is comfortable, at least.

26. The white pickup may be the dead guy's,,,,
Edited on Mon May-08-06 05:45 PM by MADem
He might have swiped a car to do the deed. They are now saying there might NOT be a second subject. The weapon was apparently an AK 47. They don't know if it was a crazy guy who wanted to shoot up the police, or if there was a targeted victim.

Some asshole, on edit, just called up and joked about the situation, a la Howard Stern. Fucker. Jim Vance just said WE DON'T NEED THAT KIND OF CRAP ON OUR SHOW. Gotta love JV!

18. Vehicle found in CENTERVILLE
Edited on Mon May-08-06 04:59 PM by MADem
There is at least one person still at large.

Apparently, this was an ambush at shift change.

Edit - Police news conference going on now. They refuse to confirm that one officer is deceased. Probably notification issues.

She said next to nothing. NBC rehashing what we already know thus far. They are searching for a second suspect. Four officers injured in addition to the one uncomfirmed killed.

22. The 6 O'clock news has even more
The incident is related to a carjacking in some fashion. The police are not releasing casualty info pending notification, it would seem.

They don't know how the first suspect died. Shot by cops or suicide? Happened at shift change. One of the police employees was a civilian, not an officer. They have the getaway truck.

A school is on lockdown, and county buildings as well, to include police stations. Female detective killed, other officer fighting for his life.

They believe ONE other shooter is at large. Possibly on foot. They have a helo up. Press conference shortly.

25. Now they are saying that they are not sure there is a second subject?
Which does not make sense, because the vehicle didn't drive itself to Centerville....

Jim Vance and Doreen are saying the shooting took place outside the building. Three officers and one civilian were shot. One police officer is dead, one is being treated. The two others were treated. One shooter shot and killed...don't know if he killed himself or was a suicide.

Manhunt is precautionary, says reporter. No POSITIVE sighting of second suspect. Worst tragedy to the force to this date. Do not know what suspect's intentions were, if he was trying to get in the station or targeting an individual.
