The formula is dismally the same. They get two rabid conservatives to mouth whatever GOP talking points are being pushed by the party admen and one tepid DLC Democrat to prove that there really isn't much difference in the economic platform of either party. It's pure conservative propaganda from both parties.

Nothing of any importance is ever said, all words are premeasured and predigested, vetted for suitability by conservative party wonks.

Like I've said before -- the truth is not there. Just like all the newspapers in the country were Loyalist/Royalist publications that dared not criticize King George III preceding the Revolutionary War, and the truth was told by the printing of handbills and pamphlets that were distributed among the people, many with anonymous authors.

The internet bloggers are now the pamphleteers of our time. Quit watching the Royalist Russert and the Sell-Out Stephanopoulos -- there's no truth there.

His speech will live for a long time and we'll be able to refer to it. I think that if Colbert wanted to make a big deal out of it and get more coverage, he would. I trust that Stewart & co. know what they're doing.

14. I think it is important for them NOT to push it.

Which is to say, if Stewart and Colbert directed everyone's attention to the speech, it would be in the public eye because of their direction. It would be a "made" media event, and it could be dismissed thusly. But because they let it go, and because they let the independant media DEMAND that it be given attention, I think it has a lot more power. It shows that what Colbert did resonated with individual citizens, and that the event is newsworthy because it's news, not because Stewart and Colbert hyped it for personal gain.

they're hammered at every instance, so what difference does it make WHAT approach they take

the more it gets out there, the better. if they attack the messenger, so what?

the image of Colbert doing what he did is the important thing, and the wider its distribution, the better

16. I probably should have put an "AT FIRST" adendum on that.

Because I would like to see them using that footage more NOW. But because they do comedy shows, it's really easy for the mainstream media to dismiss them as comics while at the same time ridiculing them for not being better journalists (Tucker Carlson did that when Stewart was on Crossfire). I think it had to establish itself in its own right. And I think it's also possible that they were concerned that people WOULD think Colbert went to far. Or else Viacom was concerned (they don't exist in a vacuum after all). But now that it has established itself as highly newsworthy, I would like to see some back-and-forth about it between them.

17. I see your point on that, and it's hard to figure out the impact of

any event in the inception stage (if there is one, in this case). I just hope that this is one of the events that hastens public awareness of just HOW craven, just HOW empty, just HOW cowardly, just HOW hypocritical this regime is.

My guess is that the internets are going to be the engine that drives this, and if it takes hold at all, the M$M will come along reluctantly
