"Gas Prices Are Killing Me." sign in eastern Lancaster County, PA
,0,6566616.photo?track=mostemailedlink

A hearse passes by a skeleton and a sign reading "GAS PRICES ARE KILLING ME" at the property of Wayne Quick in eastern Lancaster County, Pa. Crude oil prices rose above $73 a barrel Monday on supply concerns after Iran defied a U.N. Security Council deadline to stop enriching uranium.

3. 5% is all it takes. If you drive 200 miles a week, cut ten miles. Anyone
can do that. And if everyone cuts their driving by five crummy percent, prices will go down.

Just five percent. Five miles for every hundred.

4. I slowed down.
In the 1990 Colony Park, I just set the cruise control to 60 when the freeways are open and kept to the right. Takes a little longer, saves gas. I was still getting to work and back home at the same times.

Right now, I actually have one of my VW diesels running, so I'm driving that but I really did notice an increase in mileage whe slowing from 70-75 to 60. It was looking like from 17/18 to 20/22. Every little bit less helps.

5. You only get 22 MPG with a DIESEL?
Or were you referring to the bigger car?

7. Hard to follow my post?
Try looking at it from my side, I have to LIVE with this brain!
:o

The mileage estimate is for te Colony Park, the mercury version of the Ford Crown Victoria station wagon. A 1990 with a 5.0l V8 and EFI. Slowing down had a big effect on mileage. It's a large car with a big profile.

I also own two VW Rabbit pickups with diesels. They get better mileage, when they are running. They have a lot of miles on them. The one I am driving now I rigged up with a straight veg oil system.

Not if you live in Wyoming.

8. Maybe you shouldn't live in Wyoming.
Sorry, but it's true.

9. Thank you!
Thank you, Redstone. When I posted similar thoughts recently I was roundly slammed as being insensitive and narrow-minded. I agree with you -- I'm glad gas prices are up, and I'm glad people are thinking twice before they hop in their cars to drive to the store for a freakin' gallon of milk.
