Arlo Guthrie Rides 'City Of New Orleans' For Katrina Victims
Folk singer Arlo Guthrie has one more stop to make in Illinois in his campaign to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Guthrie is riding Amtrak's famed "City of New Orleans" train and performing in cities along the route. He made the late Steve Goodman's song "City of New Orleans" a hit in 1972.

The "Arlo & Friends" tour's latest stop was in Effingham, Ill. on Sunday, where he performed in front of about 400 people at the Keller Convention Center. He started in Chicago on Dec. 6 and next performs in Carbondale.

Shows are also scheduled in Memphis and New Orleans.

-------------

I'll be there! SOLD OUT but it looks like they opened a more intimate show on Friday!

On Friday, December 16th, the Tipitina's Foundation is hosting a benefit concert with one of America's most legendary musicians: Arlo Guthrie. This performance represents the final leg of the Arlo Guthrie & Friends "City of New Orleans" music tour, which will raise money to buy instruments and professional music gear for New Orleans musicians. Starting in Chicago and ending in New Orleans, Arlo and his group of family and friends will take the famous train southbound and make stops along the way, culminating with a performance at Tipitina's

The Guthrie Foundation and the Tipitina's Foundation are joining together with music instrument manufacturers to restore the music infrastructure in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. MusiCares, The Recording Academy's safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need, will help distribute "the gear" along with Tipitina's Foundation.

The Tipitina's Foundation was formed in 2002 with the mission of uplifting the musical culture of New Orleans. The foundation is now fighting to save and rebuild that very culture. Tipitina's Foundation developed and currently operates the first Musician's Community Center, located at Tipitina's at 501 Napoleon Avenue. It provides musical instruments for New Orleans public schools, conducts a high school internship program that teaches all aspects of the music business, and runs the Tipitina's Music Office Co-op that provides business and marketing training for New Orleans musicians. In the wake of Katrina, Tipitina's Foundation has been on the forefront of preserving and reconstructing New Orleans' music heritage.

4. I know you do, Swamp
I am obsessively looking for a rolling home to take down there so I can move back to the coast. It gets worse with each "Screw NOLA" post I read. If no one else gives a damn, then I will find a way to help rebuild or die trying.

And I will photograph and blog and be a constant irritant to those who wish to forget the people of the coastal south.

5. Yea, I just asked for help and now there is someone who has hijacked the
thread... it's like, your mother is dying, but this person is standing over her telling you, "she's not worth saving."

7. I know the feeling Swamp Rat
my threads have been hijacked as well

"screw your shithole city"..."I'm tired of hearing about it"..."tired of Louisiana politicians with their hands out"..."why help NOLA?"

I can't believe how heartless people are. They have no idea what we're going through.

8. Last night, my bro suggested to me to leave this place and stop wasting my
precious time. He did a long time ago after he got sick of the BS of which we speak.

Not only do these jerks have no idea what we're going through, but many really don't care.

This is a litmus test for America. Is this country gonna really make it or not?
