Re-post from Lounge: Anti-Choicers Build Naked Statue of Britney Spears
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 10:01 AM by BlueIris
Egh. Warning: somewhat graphic, arguably not safe for work, and if you're eating...finish your food first.

And people ask me why I don't believe that the anti-choicers are pushing their agenda as the result of love for the little babies. 'Cause that's...not what I see in that sculpture.

1. The fact that the artist had to give homage
to Britney's "pin-up" past tells me all I really need to know. She's having a frickin baby! Can't she stop being objectified for one minute while she has her kid?? Nevermind that she had a planned C-section so this isn't remotely close to the truth. :eyes:

2. She's just walking sex as far as they are concerned--
I'm not going to say that I love her, but the reason that she is what she is... is that that is what society wants her to be.

Bah.

3. What this makes me think of
esp. with this comment ->

"Dedication of the life-sized statue celebrates the recent birth of Spears' baby boy, Sean, and applauds her decision of placing family before career. "A superstar at Britney's young age having a child is rare in today's celebrity culture. This dedication honors Britney for the rarity of her choice and bravery of her decision," said gallery co-director, Lincoln Capla. The dedication includes materials provided by Manhattan Right To Life Committee."

They don't like the idea of women getting their careers established. Brittney established hers at a young age - so it's not an issue for her to have a baby at a young age. That wouldn't be the case for most women.

As far as the sculpture itself - I agree - I don't see it where the love of motherhood or birth or anything like that is being expressed. I don't see it as a positive image.

4. I don't see how anyone could have a baby in that position
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 11:37 AM by lukasahero
I mean, seriously, doesn't that kind of defy the laws of gravity and all? (Coming from one who has never had a baby so don't hit me if I'm way off base...)

The position does not say "I'm having a baby", it says "I'm perfectly submissive and fuckable" - no wonder the RW thinks it's a shrine.

Edited for grammar. Oops.

5. "The position...says "I'm perfectly submissive and fuckable"
exactly - that's what I was thinking the message was - I just didn't have the words.

And - yeah - nobody gives birth in that position - that I know of.

13. That's what I posted in GD when somebody put the story there
I know how women give birth on all fours, and their asses aren't up in the air, presenting.

That's a pure "fuck me" position, has nothing to do with childbirth, unless she's looking to get a little prostaglandin action going to start the whole thing off.

11. Yes
That is no childbirth position. That is the "do me doggystyle" position.

"Pro-life" my backside, more like pro-porn. :eyes:

15. I agree that's one message, but her position is also one that relieves
labor pains (at least it worked for me), particularly if the baby is facing in the wrong direction and needs to "turn."

And, in other news, the Christian right has reached a new cultural pinnacle by forming its own "pro" wrestling circuit.

Great art. Great athletic acheivements. What more could you want?

6. Just looks like a new form of objectification for her.
Now she's not just a sex symbol, but a broodmare posed in a sexy position. She's giving birth, but she's still submissive, still young and desirable. All a woman should be, right? :eyes:

7. Not only is this statue just plain pornographic...
but she didn't even give birth naturally! She had a C-section for CONVENIENCE.

The entire thing makes me ill. I'm an erotic model, but there is a difference between erotica and pornography. This statue had to have been created by someone with a severe pregnancy fetish.

8. Well, actually, Britney's C-section was reportedly mandated by
genital herpes, although there were those rumors early on that she wanted it to "avoid the pain" of childbirth. But, yeah, this statue is TOTALLY divorced from reality, like most of what the anti-choice do is.

9. She has HERPES?
I know it is irrelevant, but I don't get much celeb news, so that threw me a bit...

10. Doesn't the sculptor know how babies are born?
Gee, do you think he might have issues with his mother?

16. That's a great page
Particularly the comparison of how the Catal Huyuk mother is sitting on a throne, while Brittney is in a submissive fuck-me position that brings to mind "Clan of the Cave Bear."
