In the original welcoming scenario, I was happy to have his vote, I'm not going to turn away a voter, and he can vote for democrats if he wishes. I'd rather have random jerk vote for a democrat than a republican.

I can't help it if he disagrees on abortion, but screw him if he's going to come here to "promote" the progressive cause by framing things in RW terms.

And beyond that, fuck him if he's opposed to choice. But I'll still take his vote.

In other words, he is free to support us; I just won't support him, and damned if I'm going to pander to him by backing down on civil rights to get his vote.

I emailed the campaign to give them a heads up that this guy was claiming to work for them, with as much personal info as he had posted publicly about himself (fireman, two kids), and a suggestion that on the off chance he really was one of them they pull him aside and counsel him about his behavior. 8. I didn't see his other threads, and I know people like that,

so I went into my mode of explaining the difference between a principle espoused only by a particular religion (forbidding abortion) and a principle espoused by all of humanity, whether religious or secular (forbidding theft and murder).

If the discussion had continued, I would have asked if, back in the days when Catholics didn't eat meat on Fridays, he would have required that all people in America be forbidden to do so.

(Side note: Restaurants in highly secular Oregon almost always serve clam chowder on Fridays. I wonder if they even know why.)

Try this line of argument with the next Catholic pro-lifer you meet. It makes their heads explode.

I was just encompassing all of the welcoming posts into one pseudo-post.

But yes, he was welcomed by many people, with open arms, told to don his flame suit because he was bringing up some topics that would get him flamed (Which he WAS--but the posters were agreeing with him and basically warning him that his views were against the grain and so watch out).

His stance on Abortion got the most heat, but even then, there were a few posters who agreed with much of his abortion stance (although I think he lost alot of support with his incest victims can use bc argument).

MANY MANY people agreed with him about the gay marriage thing, and all of his other stances.

It was disusting.

31. The posts that really get to me

Are the ones where people are filled with despair at all our terrible Dems in congress. Sure, I'm angry over certain votes. But the theme I see emerging with some new people posting are ones where they're giving up on the Party. After seeing several, the theme quickly emerged. I'd just post an innocuous or helpful response along with one of my anti W button images or some such.

And yes, they're posting a couple hundred posts before sharing their "despair". Heck, I don't get depressed - I get pissed and start writing emails. Oh - and they also post about how ineffective phone call and write-in campaigns have been. Hrumph! That tells me that they *are* effective!
