2. good for you !! I'm glad to hear
things are going well for you. Be mindful of your labs though. I speak from experience. Your Iron and ferritin especially. I don't know if you are on any email lists for WLS but there is a yahoo group that provides excellent information from people who have had or are experiencing iron issues and other lab related issues and questions.

The folks on that list are primarily RNY post ops.

what the OP had.
The surgery itself is major surgery. If you've had any type of abdominal surgery you will be able to relate to that. My surgery took about 4.5 hours. The pain control was excellent in the hospital where I remained for 5 days. I had no complications at all. The recovery period, the time I was off work was 7 weeks. Normally 6 weeks but I contracted a Urinary Tract Infection and that held me back.

there are many sites available online with the information you need to make an educated choice when it comes to weight loss surgery. Please give consideration to everything available to you. Research, research and then research some more. Ask questions. Find a qualified surgeon and go for the best. This is a life changing procedure. You MUST be ready for it. You will have to have a psychiatric/psychological evaluation required by your insurance company and the surgeon. You will need a multitude of tests done. You will have to be committed to your good health. You will live on supplements for the rest of your life to make up for what you don't get in food.

Here are a couple of websites for you to look at.
None of them are mine, but they are sites I'm comfortable with recommending that people read.

note: Dr Husted was not my surgeon but his website is very informative.
There are also yahoo groups dedicated to specific weight loss surgery types.
If you'd like that information feel free to message me.

all the best.

edited to add this URL for a comparative chart of the surgeries available.

I have lost 100% of my excess weight.
my BMI went from 51 to 23. The charts say I'm at my ideal weight now. My surgery was in March of 2005.
