Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

It could be a rough week for President Bush, with two key White House aides facing the possibility of being indicted in the investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's name and Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers bracing for more tough questions from senators. Even Vice President Dick Cheney has come under scrutiny, sources familiar with the investigation told the Bloomberg News Service.
The special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, has questioned current and former Bush administration officials about whether Cheney was involved in an effort to discredit the CIA agent's husband, Iraq war critic and former U.S. diplomat Joseph Wilson, according to the Bloomberg report.
Fitzgerald could decide within days whether to bring charges over the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity. Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, and President Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, were among the possible targets, legal sources said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9727260/

Prominent defense attorney and TV legal pundit Daniel Horowitz found his wife's lifeless body in the entryway of the couple's home - a death that is being investigated as a homicide. Horowitz, who is currently defending a woman accused of murdering her therapist husband, found Pamela Vitale dead Saturday night at the entrance of the mobile home they shared on property where they were building their dream estate, authorities said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9715289/

Donning a gold yarmulke and a prayer shawl, 13-year-old Columbo Rudy on Monday marked his entry into the world as an adult. With several of his canine pals present, the toy poodle partied the day away at an outdoor Aventura cafe with a rousing rendition of ''Happy Bark Mitzvah'' and a sampling of doggie bones. Rabbi Terry Bookman, of Temple Beth Am in Pinecrest, said he is all for loving and caring for pets, but a ''bark mitzvah'' is crossing the line. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/12868446.htm
That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
City elections are wide open in this Oakley, Idaho - there are no candidates. Oakley has two City Council vacancies to fill in November, but no one has filed the papers to be placed on the ballot, and the deadline for write-in candidacy is fast approaching. Mayor Garth Greenwell said he hoped somebody would come forward. If nobody does, the two council seats will remain vacant, and on Jan. 1 Greenwell will work with the rest of the council to appoint someone to fill each vacancy, attorney Steve Tuft said. "Even if there is not enough council members to constitute a quorum, government cannot be shut down," Tuft said. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NO_CANDIDATES?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
See what's happening in this country? Can't even find people to run for office anymore!
