House Republicans chop several programs
Committees scramble to assemble $50B in budget cuts

Thursday, October 27, 2005; Posted: 2:17 p.m. EDT (18:17 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republicans voted to cut student loan subsidies, child support enforcement and aid to firms hurt by unfair trade practices as various committees scrambled to piece together $50 billion in budget cuts.

More politically difficult votes -- to cut Medicaid, food stamps and farm subsidies -- are on tap Thursday as more panels weigh in on the bill.

It was originally intended to cut $35 billion in spending over five years, but after pressure from conservatives, GOP leaders directed committees to cut another $15 billion to help pay the cost of hurricane recovery. <snip>

In the Senate, the Budget Committee voted along party lines to bundle together the work of eight legislative committees into a bill that will be debated next week by the full Senate.

2. That what I was wondering about - I swear our party lets opportunities go
by over and over again.

Then again for 5 years I have seen great Dem speeches not reported on by the media - so the party may well have responded - and GOP controlled corporate media has ignored us yet another time.

:-(

3. the left represents my beliefs
They might have responded but it should be the first thing out of their mouths day in and day out.Look at how the price of gas has inflamed everyone in the country. If the electorate is informed of these cuts daily, one person at a time if necessary, even some of the evangelicals will respond to the pocket book issues.Five years ago I was a right-wing fanatic and I have become a left-wing radical because I have seen the right is in it for themselves.By the way,I still attend an evangelical church and I would like to inform people that the dobsons, falwells and robertsons do not represent everyone.

5. Thanks
For having an open mind. You wouldn,t believe how just saying I attend an evangelical church is followed by an attack on my beliefs which no one knows before the hostility begins in earnest.
that will be my last statement on religious matters but I felt compelled to compliment your civility.
