Salton Sea Birding Trip
Last week I took a trip to the Salton Sea and saw forty-six species of birds. I saw thousands of snow geese, shovelers and at least one hundred sandhill cranes. The highlights of the trip included a pair of burrowing owls and a couple of common ground doves.

2. No lifers on this trip
I was just excited to these birds because I do not see them everyday.

3. Where on the Salton Sea did you do most of your birding?
We're thinking of going this coming weekend (if it doesn't rain).

Thanks!

4. On the Eastern side of the Salton Sea
I birded from the Salton Sea State Park (nothern part of the Salton Sea) to the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge (southern part of the Salton Sea). The road to Red Hill Marina and to the Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge were very good for seeing a variety of egrets, birds of prey, ducks, and shore birds.

If you are interested in ground doves, Abert's towhees, and quail, you will want to visit the visitor center at the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge. The visitor center also has a board with recent sightings outside. You can get a map of the area at the visitor center.

5. sounds great
I love burrowing owls!

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
