The guy who's always pissed about these things is pissed. On the bright side, we had a couple visiting for the first time who said they'd be back, and asked me to do their wedding. So, it comes out about even.

I'm way to concerned about what people think to be in this line of work!

3. Good preaching always upsets somebody
When people don't hear what they want to hear they get upset. I think it is wonderful that you touched on Rick Warren stuff in your sermon. It is perfectly appropriate and timely. The media has had a lot of coverage on the subject. There is a lot of interest in it. I know that I ask myself what position and what action I might take as a Christian. I would have been happy if I were to come to your church and hear this sermon. I sometimes fear that some priests are too ready to sweep controversial issues under the bed and in doing so they avoid encouraging necessary dialogue.

I will pray for you. I will also pray for your congregation especially asking our Lord to help those who refuse to see.:grouphug:

5. I said that the "Word made flesh", the "light that has come into the world"
to challenge the darkness of the world, calls us to care for those the darkness would want to hide from our view--the oppressed, the hurting, the powerless. I mentioned, as an illustration, that Rick Warren's invitation to a place of honor should not distract us from those who are pained by his work in removing human rights. The light shone on him or on PE Obama should not help to keep the glbt community in the dark, outside of our view.

Just one illustration, but I have a couple of people who want me to never mention glbt issues, even though, technically, we're an ONA church.
