my Dad passed at 6 this morning
He died of complications of a hip surgery, and was suffering Alzheimer's. I had prayed last night that if was going to pass away relatively soon, that he go soon and quickly. He did. The Lord is good. I wasn't treated the best by my Dad over the years, but late in life I realized he was troubled, and saw the good man inside. I spent several days with him a few months ago, and we just sat in silence most of the time. I held his hand, and I prayed for him.

To all who've lost a parent, I'm beginning to know that odd feeling. Bless you, and all who still have both your parents, I hope you can find common ground with any of them you have had issues with and still love who they are to you.

maranatha - amen

1. So very sorry for your loss
I lost my dad five years ago. Coming up on the anniversary. He died two days after his birthday.
My dad and I are -- were -- very close. He loved being a dad; one of the reasons he hung on as long as he did is that he loved his kids so much. On the night he died I had to go to the airport and pick up my husband, who'd cut a trip to the west coast short to come home and be with me. On the way, the Delilah radio show, which I dislike and never listen to, came on. A young woman caller was on the air, talking about her dad, who had passed eight months before. I remember thinking, "She sounds all right. Maybe I will be, too." Sometimes we get to hear things just when we need to hear them. One of the reasons I believe in God.

Peace to you,
Mary

5. God bless you and your family.
I lost my mom last March, and have good days, and days when I really struggle with grief.

I hope you know that DU has a bereavement group here. They, too (besides this group) have been a tremendous emotional support.

May you take some comfort in knowing that your Dad is finally at rest.

6. I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad, themartyred-
The feeling of losing a parent is really inexplicable. I thought I never would recover after losing both my parents, 4 months apart, back in 1995. It was a struggle, but it does get better. Friends around me helped me immeasurably. And the Lord was very loving in helping to heal my heart and spirit.

I'm so glad you could see the best in your Dad, and you were able to spent time with him.

You and your family will be in my prayers thru this difficult time. Rev. Cheesehead's suggestion of the bereavement group is a good one; we also have a prayer group here at DU. Sending you lots of hugs:

7. I'm so sorry, themartyred
I'm glad you came to see the good man in your father before his passing. I hope you find comfort. There will be bad days, I know. My mom died a year and a quarter ago. I still miss her and wish I could still enjoy our talks.

You're in my prayers.
