There's a first for everything - and I have one to deal with - PLEASE READ
Yesterday afternoon I slipped, fell and broke my left arm while lettering a van in my yard. I'm right handed.
The good thing is that I am sure I'll figure out how to still host the contest, the bad thing  is that my pers chatter will be diminished until i'm better.

Tomorrow the submissions will start, until that time let"s make the best of it and

or at least smile while counting blessings.

3. Take it as easy as possible. Did you make enough soup for a couple of days?
I hope so. That way you can relax and not worry about doing too much.

6. Oh damn, Mira, that's terrible
Having been in a similar situation recently, here are a few tips.

1. Have your son install a hand held shower head if you don't already have one. (Don't rely on plastic bags to keep the cast dry using a regular shower head. The doctors who tell you to use plastic bagst have obviously never tried it.)

2. One Touch can and One Touch bottle opener. (As seen on TV!) A godsend for the one handed. You can get spiked cutting boards to hold stuff while you cut, too.

3. Dragon Dictate, if you have a lot of writing to do. For short term, this may not be worth it. I still use it when I have longer pieces to type.

4. Get friendly with a neighbor. You will need zippers and buttons done and rides to wherever.

5. Eat healthy (I'm sure you already do based on photos of your cooking). Good nutrition speeds healing.

So, good healing vibes coming in your direction.

Oh Mira we will miss you, but I don't think you should be worrying about the contest at this point. Tomorrows afternoon I will be back to regular connectivity and will look at the schedule and see what I can do to help you when I get back home.

Darn it!!

This confounds my karma theory - I figured your cheeky winter contest entry was a runaway winner as a karmic reward for stepping up to run this month's contest - and now this!

What else have you been up to?

I hope you heal up quick!

9. A while ago . .
I broke my right hand. As a right handed acupuncturist, it was a challenge. I had to learn to do my work one wrong handed and to learn to write with my left hand. It was a major challenge that I took on as a learning experience. Funny thing is that I also fell a couple days ago and sprained my left wrist pretty badly.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. The good thing about broken bones is that they generally heal quickly and completely.

I feel for you. Take your pain pills as directed, it does make a difference. If they didn't prescribe you any get your doctor on the phone and get some. My ortho was adamant about it. I do hope you are going to see an ortho. Almost afraid to hear about the emergency room.

I did not see this until after making the broken bone comment in another thread. I was thinking about my feet, unfortunately you now know too well what I meant.

NV Whino had some great advice. I would add, get a shower chair. I know it is your arm that broke but it will screw with your balance some and the chair is just that bit of extra safety. It also makes washing your hair one handed a easier. Even with a hand head shower head you still need to wrap the arm in a plastic bag. I got painters tape and used it to seal/hold a bag over my legs even though I kept the feet on a chair outside of the shower. The hand held shower head and shower chair made it possible for me to even get a shower.

My ortho also had me take a calcium, magnesium, zinc supplement while my bones were healing along with vitamin D. Check with your doctor of course.

Hope your son can stay at least for a couple of days. You might need some help beyond that but you will surprise yourself with how much you can adapt and make things workable.

Also, if your son gets over protective take it in good grace with the love intended. You probably scared the crap out of him.

Edited to add- Love the shadow, that one is perfect.

29. Mira!!!
You are trespassing in MY territory, please to knock it off.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

And for what it's worth, I've had both breaks and sprains, and the breaks hurt less and healed faster.

Thinking of you. . .

31. actually...
if nothing majorly embarrassing goes wrong it's a blessing. i'll feel useful.

there's little else i can do and being bound to some obligations keeps me off the streets. i'd be shuffling about, disturbing traffic, trailing the blanket i'm wrapped in because getting dressed isn't possible.

i'm missing your entry!
