1. I'm going to stop here
Edited on Mon Jul-26-10 05:56 PM by NV Whino

I might take the color back to more of a brown tone, but I wouldn't attempt to correct the glitches. Lightening, sharpening and increasing the contrast is all I did.

2. It's a tough one because it is small and there's not much data to work with.
I will mess with the channels a bit, convert to b&w then add a light sepia. I might mess with the healing brush a bit.

Btw, the boy on the right is my grandpa on my mother's side. Never met him.

6. Nice. It's hard to get the faces to come forward without
destroying them. What did you do with his jacket?

7. Cleaned up the jacket
with Lightroom's Adjustment Brush, basically a dodge and burn tool on steroids since you can not only adjust exposure but contrast, clarity, ect at the same time.

8. I'm using GIMP, too poor, too cheap to buy expensive titles.

10. You did a real good job of bringing out the faces, and fixing
the right margin. Any more work on the boy on the right increases the contrast on his forehead making it look like there is a pronounced ridge.

I just got an ID on the boy, he is my grandfather on my mother's side. His name is James

11. Actually...
I went for the "cheap" fix and just cropped off the damaged edges. Trying to use clone or some other tool would make it look too obviously fixed. Using the Silver FX plug in with Paint Shop Pro you can use control points to help fix the exposure just where you need to - that's how I got to make the faces look better. I love working on old photos.

12. I thought about cropping out the damage, but I needed
practice matching shade and noise. The bad section over James wasn't too hard to fix except I couldn't find the stylus for my Wacom.
