No More Stalking Herons!!
Wanna know why? Today I took three out of four of these pictures from my car, from the empty parking lot, at 8:30 am, under thirty degrees temperature, light wind from the north. My only stalking was driving my car to a different part of the parking lot. I thought I had better get some more frozen lake pics before it melted under the sun. The lake was only partially frozen.

Nice way to start the day.

For those who like bison in the background

For those who like paddle boats in the background, plus a fish in the mouth

Would you rather see a gull?

I think this may have been taken during the thirty seconds or so that I left my car. This is one of the islands in Patriot Lake, and shows the rush hour traffic in the background. In the foreground ducks are standing on a frozen part of the lake.

I am going on a self imposed one month moratorium. No more Shelby Farm pictures for at least a month.

3. Sometimes I feel as if they do
Remember this is the first year that they have come to this very popular and accessible lake. Most likely that is for a reason. I have to say the fishing must be pretty good at the lake. They absolutely practically disappear when there are a lot of people around. Believe it or not I saw one roller blader, and one person did take a swing through the parking lot, but that was it!. I may try getting there earlier tomorrow.

I also think that the geese and the gulls and the ducks give the herons a little bit of courage. The place is absolutely teeming with wildlife of all types.....

I was pretty shocked that I was able to get these pictures from my car. The secret is to go early in the morning when they feel an acute need to go fishing.

Again, I wouldn't be going THIS nuts if I was used to this. I'm not. I'm pretty amazed, actually. I'm not doing anything special.

2. That second shot with the fish flip is outstanding!
How the heck did you get that timed so perfectly?

4. luck, mostly
It has to do with getting there early in the morning when they like to fish, and then driving up by them and snapping a lot of shots when they start to move. But, I have to say I have done that a lot of times, and, though I have other birds with fish in their mouths, none have the fish so clearly outlined. It doesn't even look as if the mouth is touching the fish in this one. That's kind of cool!

5. EXQUISITE - the second picture. And the third, and the first and fourth, too.
:)

You gotta be kidding about that month break, I know you're kidding you say TOMORROW you are back out there.
I will be waiting.
These are like a walk in a park I'll never see.
