Some desert landscapes...
...I went out to Lake Mead National Recreation Area this last weekend. It's about a 40 minute drive to get to the entrance from my house, and I get an annual pass for $20 every year. It's the scenic way to get to Valley of Fire, although I did not go all the way to VOF this trip. Here are four of my favorite shots:

5. The desert does have its own beauty!
But it's a pretty harsh environment, that's for sure. We did get a couple inches of rain over the last 10 days which is really good, there should be a good wildflower bloom in the spring.

2. The wild and gorgeous West is calling.
The light is just right on each of those, and especially the light on the butte.

Thank you for posting these.

6. Thanks, it's always good when the light comes out right...
...I'm glad I took lots of pictures, though, because lots of them did not turn out. I especially had trouble getting a shot of clouds on the hills, the clouds were always blown out. I got myself a polarizing filter, thinking that would make a difference, but I'm not sure if it did or not. Well, that's part of the fun is experimenting!

3. Those are great.
especially the last two. The clouds and and the reflected light are spectacular.

Haven't been to the desert in ages. These pics make me want to go.

There are cheap fares from San Francisco to Vegas. $39. What's the temperature like this time of year?

4. Thank you! As for the temperature...
...it's been a bit brisk with highs of 55, lows of 45 or so, and several days of clouds and rain. But it will start warming up pretty soon, and I still don't have a real good feel for the weather patterns here, so you will have to check the weather reports if you are planning to travel out to these parts!

Just Google for the Las Vegas Sun or the Las Vegas Review-Journal, they both have weather reports for Vegas for the week.

7. Wow, colors besides
white and shades of white.

I love these specially the colors of the last two though they all have a magic with the layers of stuff going on.
