The Beach Life is The Good Life
I just got back from a week on Edisto Island, on the SC coast. It is my favorite beach within 4-5 hours. We camped and lived like beach bums. I had some fun taking pictures. Here are a few highlights. I hope you enjoy!

Possible 'Portrait of a Stranger' Entry:

1. Indeed
It felt like a mini trip on the beach. I have never camped by the beach and it looks like I missed out. Thanks for posting!

I love the birds in a row, and that's a great cloud picture. Nice that you got a possible contest entry. I really like that picture. Hard to resist a kid who finds objects on the beach and loves doing it.

Do you want to explain the blue and green halo looking things (or am I just characteristically out of it, and should know that???)_

The last time I was in the Atlantic ocean it was last September, and if I tried to get into water over my knees, the waves knocked me over flat on the ground. I was at a reunion of friends and it the Atlantic did everyone the same way. Fortunately we were unable to get far enough out for it to be treacherous. I just don't think of the Atlantic like that (but I'm more of a Gulf Coast person myself).

2. The blue-green halo was my friend spinning poi.
We were hanging out back at the campsite. My wife was doing yoga, and in the meditation part. Our friend was behind her spinning poi. I wanted to capture each of them doing their individual relaxation exercises, by doing mine. :)

I set up the tripod and did a 20 second exposure to get the poi(lighted balls on the end of a line that you spin) and briefly scattered light on my wife with a flashlight to get her to show up. It was completely dark, only a little moonlight and the poi.

3. Love them! Glad you are back, was wondering if you had
gotten lost looking for strangers to photograph.
MY FAVORITE here is number seven, because it inspires me, really, to pull out a canvas and my oils.
I just might.
The boy: What can I say. The son warms him and his countenance warms me.
I think this is a definite possibility. And IMO on this one, leave the warm sunlight's color.

6. I hope you do pick up your oils!
Thanks for the compliment. I never switch a photo to Black and White. I take them in B&W or I take them in color. The boy was definitely meant for color. The sun was low in the sky, the lighting real nice.

7. Oh, that is very interesting. I figured you switched them, because that's what I do.
The lighting, other than the expression of wonder on his face, make that shot.
I love it.

Should I paint the picture, I'll post it, or send you a photo.
It just asks for it, to me.

4. Beach life is good
At least, judging from your photos, it's amazing. The night exposures with the poi are my favourites of these. Your portrait of the boy is good too. I like the slightly mischievous look on his face.

5. The boy was catching the crablike things that burrow into the sand
after a wave. He had figured out how to get them quite effectively, and had a bucket of them. He showed us how to catch them, and asked if I wanted to take a picture of one. I said, I'll take a picture of it with you holding it.

We had a lot of fun with the long exposure poi pics. I sorted through them to pick my two favorites. When I get a long exposure subject, I really can't get enough of it. The unpredictability and variance by chaos is so much fun to witness.

9. There was a significant increase in people from the last week of May
to the first week of June. Not enough to make it annoying though. It's a well kept secret, through May at least. The Piggly Wiggly makes for easy camping. :)

10. Enjoy? Hell yes.
Reminds me of Tybee Island, which is only 50 or so miles down the coast and was one of my favorite places to spend a day.
