Took your suggestions!
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 04:27 PM by bvar22
I can live with this.
Used a tripod, upped ISO to 400, Shutter Speeds over 800, upped the in camera sharpness one step (using fine JPG today). Punk day for photos, very hazy.

The skyline of St Paul from across the river (Mississippi). The little white building center left is the State Capitol.

Cropped to 100%, no resizing

This post is in response to one I posted yesterday in which I was disappointed in the performance of my lens at full zoom.

The DU PhotoForum responded with many useful suggestions.
The corrections were applied to the photographer, and the results are much better.
I was paying close attention to the tripod and camera stability, and noticed that there was some camera movement upon shutter release no matter how careful I was.
I ordered a remote today, and will probably invest in a sturdier tripod for this heavy camera.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions.
I love this forum.
Congrats to regnaD kciN. Great photo!

1. Good job, Bvar.
You'll love the remote. I have two tripods, one that's light for carrying around, and the other one that's more substantial. I usually use the heavier one when I can.

2. Much better.
The remote should make it more stable. Try the mirror lockup as well. The "Mup" button on the left top, next to ISO. Locking the mirror up will stop the jitter the mirror makes when it flips up. You can't see your shot, so focus first.

Might I suggest a haze filter or a UV filter? It'll protect your lense as well as clean up the fog glare. UV will not change the exposure like most filters do (even polarizer).
