1. holding out for Clausmas
I'm hoping to get the gift set with that cool Minas Tirith for Clausmas. If I don't, on Boxing Day I go buy it.

12. Just got the last of my Clausmas presents
And one of the digital cameras we got is going to be cashed in for this, among other things.

4. no scouring.
never filmed it, won't be there. still, there should be some Saruman and wormtongue, if IMDB credits are to be believed.

I'm picking up two: one for me, one as a present for my dad.

7. There's an additional fifty minutes SPOILERS
Many scenes have added action, froim a few seconds to a few minutes.

The final confrontation between Gandalf and Saruman is excellent, albeit with some liberties taken. Thse way this scene plays out explains why they did not include the scouring of the Shire.

There's some additional footage in the Paths of the Dead scene that really adds to the overall feeling of that particular scene.

Lots more character building in the additional scenes and footage.

The Witch King's confrontation with Gandalf is included.

The Mouth of Sauron is incredible!

Overall, OUTSTANDING job by Peter Jackson, who is shot with an arrow in one added scene!

9. Actually, bought my own copy today
Only about 45 minutes into it--thought the Saruman-Grima scene was well done, and true to the spirit of the book (though it would have been nice to have the scouring included at the end). I love John Carradine as Saruman so it was good to see him included in the ee. Really looking forward to Gandalf and the Witch King and the Mouth of Sauron. And of course all the extras on the other discs. And Jackson shot by an arrow--I'll have to watch out for that!

10. The Mouth of Sauron is perhaps the best special effects in the movie
I really enjoyed that scene.

8. I'm very disappointed with it ***spoiler***
I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of coverage of Faramir and Eowyn. They added almost an hour of footage.....and all we get is one quick cuddle????

Their relationship is so important to the story (especially since Jackson spent SO MUCH TIME with the characters BEFORE their "dooms".) I just can't believe he cheated us this way.
I'm really, really bummed.

11. That is really the saddest part of this version
and it is really something that should have been put into the extended version, at least five more minutes!

Sadly, there was probably some footage of that which cost a few thousand and the choice probably came down to that footage of some of the special effects battle scene footage that cost millions. You know how that decision probably went.

13. Thanks for the validation.
I went back and re-read that section of the book and thought pretty much the same as you did.

A five minute sequence could have portrayed it quite nicely.
*sigh*
:-(

17. Are there additional scenes in the DVD set beyond the extended versions?
We watched all three extended versions of the movies over the holidays. I thought that there would be a third set of additional scenes - deleted scenes from the extended versions. Not true?

We have the gazillion dvd set but I can't figure out what most of the additional material is - there seem to be a lot of storyboards and commentary.

I want those deleted scenes! Do they exist anywhere?

For those who have pored through all the extra dvds, what sections would you recommend?

18. Heck, i just watch 'em all
I've watched every minute of the extras so far.

The deleted scenes tend to be just folded back in to the extended edition, though.

Rumour has it that PJ's working on a "super-extended" edition of all three films to be sold as a box set, with even more footage. Woohoo!
