1. What the fuck was up with that?
Christ and nonathiests wonder why some people are intolerant. Good for Beastman, that shit pisses me off, he did it with humor and grace too.

2. Just when you think it can't get any more ridiculous...
...it does.

You don't know whether to laugh or cry at the cynicism.

3. Mostly it's a reaction against the fundy-ization of the Bushies
If they wanted to tick the fundies off, they should just answer "Blessed be" (Wiccan phrase)...and then giggle. (Okay, I'm bad, I know it!)

In Irish, the normal way of greeting someone is "Dia duit"--God with you. And the response is "God and Mary with you", altho it's not taken any more seriously than we take "Good-bye" to mean the original "God be with you".

4. That's a good idea...
True people wishing a good day wouldn't care about the form of a good wish...it would just annoy the fundies.

7. Would it be, "Blessed Be America" or "America, Blessed Be"
Which would you put on a bumpersticker?

"One Nation Under The Goddess" might be good, too.

5. Wow, thanks guys.
Taken within the proper context, I can see how it may offend some, such as when a religiously zealous individual uses it in contempt for a non-believer, but how often does that really happen? Quite often, those who have wished me a "blessed day" are truly sincere about it. That's why I have no problem with the phrase.

6. I agree
You know where I most hear that phrase? At the homeless shelter, where I work and volunteer. Almost all the women say that to me when they leave for the day. Likewise, when I ask them how they are doing, most will say, "I'm blessed." I dare anyone on the other thread to mock or question that.

And needless to say, it puts a LOT in perspective for me.

The trouble is, on the other boards, they can't tell the difference between sincerity and insincerity as it concerns religion; it's easier just to lump everybody under one category and take it from there. I find it quite sad.
