6. Hey Stranger, long time no hear!
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 09:29 PM by TayTay
What's been up with you? I would love to go to my neighbors in NH and contribute a little love and see The Senator.

And you will be joining us? (I missed you at the March dinner in Nashua. That was a good time, btw. It was held about 15 minutes from my house. Come on by and introduce yourself in Manchester. I'm buying -- well, first round anyway.)

This sounds like fun. October is right around the corner, as is the Senator's birthday, from a certain point of view. Methinks that we could be seeing Kerry-fans here in New England all fall long. (Hope so!)

8. So how "statecentric" are these Jefferson-Jackson dinners anyway?
I'm assuming anyone who ponies up the $$ can attend? The link is really, really slow for me for some reason, and I'm too impatient to wait for it. Maybe the answer to my question lies within.

If you had to chose between New England in the autumn or the Birthday Bash in a blizzard, which would you chose? There are obvious pros and cons for both of these, I think.

9. Oh dear. That's a poser, for sure
We should put up a poll and ask people if they are considering coming to Boston in Dec for a massive meetup. The NH one will also be way cool.

We need a poll! (And I am not objective. I disqualify myself in the interest of fairness from the Fall vs. Dec thing. I have a thing for Christmas, sigh.)

10. good idea, Tay
I'd like to see how that poll goes, too. As for preference October vs December, hell, I'm with you. NH will definitely be good, but the December thing is special :-)

11. I think a poll is a good idear.
I'm torn. I would love to see NE in the fall, there are a couple of places I would love to visit (in addition to Boston) and I LOVE autumn weather. December was great, but the stress of not knowing if we'd even make it there because of the snow storm was not. (I wasn't even sure if I could make it to the airport in Norfolk due to the same storm.) On the other hand, the December event is specifically for Sen. Kerry ...

Indecision may or may not be my problem. I would love to say BOTH, but unfortunately that's not an option for me at least.

12. You hit the nail on the head IB
The December event is just for Sen. Kerry (and for Teresa.) That makes it special.

Ahm, again, ahm, I can attend both. (Well, I, ahm, live here and Manchester is 1/2 hour from my house.) Since I can do both, I will leave it to people who live farther away and might find it a hardship to come to the Frozen North in Dec or not to decide. (Ahm, have I ever mentioned I am way, way spoiled when it comes to seeing some people around he-yah! I think it's best if I let others decide.)

13. October or December, that's the question
Hi Taytay, I just had my Swiss friend asking me if I were interested in a New England tour in October. She has been accepted for a Green Card and now has to enter the US once a year to keep the card valid until she will move over. Would you consider October a good time to visit? I guess in December it's very cold and not that amusing to drive around. We would like to come for two weeks and to travel the region. But I really would love to combine my trip with a Kerry appearance if possible.

October is the very best time of the year to come to New England. (It isn't even close as to when the best time is.) The weather during the day is usually warm. (Okay, you might need a sweater some of the time, but otherwise, it's nice.) It's cool at night and is 'good sleeping weather.' The scenery is incredible and the tourists locations are usually not too crowded.

I can drive you up to the Lakes region in New Hampshire (and point out several areas of interest in 'vote-rich Southern New Hampshire' along the way. I can't help myself. I took MH1 to a parking lot in Nashua and showed her 'vote-rich Southern New Hampshire' just cuz, ahm, couldn't help myself. Sigh!)

And people could do both events as there is no law against it. (Okay, some of us can do both events, but we are attempting to be humble and not rub it in other people's faces. Ahm, so far that is ahm, a work in progress. Sigh! Ahm, what can I say?)

You would not be allowed to contribute money to American political parties out right, but you could most certainly be a guest of someone going to this dinner. It would be a fine chance to see the American political scene in fine operation and to see a really good pol deliver a speech.

Please come! I, and many others, would love it!

EDIT: I know there are others in the New England and, maybe, East Coast area who would love to see you. I can help with some travel here, but I would do whatever brings the most people together. (In other words, whatever you want and others want to do is fine (great, outstanding, incredible) with me. I would not want to 'hog' your visit or hijack any travel itineraries. I can get carried away sometimes. I rather like this area and get a bit enthused sometimes. Sigh!)

22. It would be a great pleasure meeting you
...and all the other Kerrycrats who live there or who come over for the New Hampshire event. New England in October sounds fantastic! And you are so sweet, TayTay, to offer showing us around. Don't worry about hijacking our travel itineraries. We don't have any yet. We just talked about flying to Boston and travel around a bit, and I intended to ask you guys here which places we should visit (will open a new thread for that). My Swiss friend isn't as much into politics as I am but she wants to live in the USA one day, and that would be a good introduction to the "situation on the ground" for her.

23. Midway through writing that last post, I had a flashback
to me telling people on line in Oct, 2005, "What are you crazy? You want to come to Boston in Dec.? It could snow. Send a check or something instead."

Good thing nobody listens to me around here. I was so totally freakin' wrong about that, it's a wonder people still tolerate me. (Imagine if we had never had that event in Boston. OMFG!) So, ahm, it occurred to me, halfway through writing something about people coming to Boston that I am in no position to comment on this.

I firmly believe in letting events occur as they will. Come to NH in Oct or Boston in Dec. It's all good. (Honest, I did at least learn something. If good people want to do something heartfelt, ahm, get out of the way and let them do so. Who died and made me the Queen of the friggin universe anyway?)

25. Don't worry
My friend asked me for October because it's her school vacation and she can't go in December anyway. But that doesn't mean that I couldn't come back for the Birthday event if I really want too. Flights aren't that expensive in December - just lets wait and see. October sounds good for me right now as I've never been to New England and would really love to visit the region.

26. There are some smoking political campaigns
this fall as well. We have a great Governor's race in Massachusetts and Sens. Kennedy and Kerry should be going all over the state endorsing the Dem nominee for Gov. (Sen. Kennedy is up election for his 9th term in the Senate this year.) As the Republican Party in Massachusetts has all but fallen apart, the good Senator has no real opposition. This means he can devote time to campaigning for others, which is much needed and much appreciated. Sen. Kerry has been quite active in Mass since the national election in '04 and has been raising money for the eventual state Dem nominee. I am sure that we will be seeing him around this fall. Should be fun! (And Senator Kery actually likes Massachusetts! Really, he likes us. Unlike our slimebag Gov who only uses us to get on TV.)

You must find a way to go to NH and Vermont in the fall. Go and find an inexpensive hotel or motel on the Kangamangus Highway. It is indescribably beautiful:

You should try and go to the Lakes region of New Hampshire and see the view from the Castle in the Clouds. http://www.castleintheclouds.org/Lakes%20Region%20Conservation%20Trust.htm

That picture doesn't do it justice. You can't see the intensity of the colors all around that building. It is indescribably beautiful. I have relatives with houses up there, we could go!

Gawd, I could talk for days about this region. North of Boston people tend to vacation in New Hampshire and Maine. (Rather than down Cape. )It's really just gorgeous in the fall and winter. (Yeah, winter. Get snow tires. It's not so bad.) Anyway, there are are several maps of the foliage regions on line that can give you a rough guide as to when 'peak' season is. http://www.newhampshire.com/foliage/index.cfm

It has been said that geography helps to define a people. Maybe there is something to that. Generations of New Englanders have long dealt with a land that is most beautiful just befores it dies back for the winter. Perhaps that accounts for the touch of melancholy in the New England soul. Maybe. Come and see for yourself. Bring a camera.

16. I'm up for this if other folks are.
As I said before it will mean not going in December, but this is really a better time for me anyway. I had a question so I sent it to the above email address and got a prompt reply (yes, non-New Hampshire residents are welcome to attend!) There are still some things I need to work out, but put me down as a more-than-tentative "YES".

17. I'd love to go but it's a Friday during the school semester
So no go.

All I gotta say is that the December bash better be on a weekend, dammit! To the powers that be arranging the December birthday party: Saturday night would be way, way more convenient than Sunday for those of us who have to fly back for finals and whatnot. Flying in Friday night and back home Sunday night would work out great. So my vote for the party date goes to Saturday, December 9th.

18. That really would be more convenient, wouldn't it?
Didn't someone say that JK always has his birthday party on the day of his birthday? I hope he makes an exception, because the day falling on a Monday makes it difficult for a lot of people to attend.

20. The hotel rooms are cheaper
that's for sure. The Radisson in Manchester, with a AAA discount go for $140 -160, depending if you want to put 2 or 4 people in one. Nice place.

700 Elm St.
Manchester, NH

Hmmmm, this could be doable for some people. Like I said, there are people who could do both. Whatever works.

(Disclaimer: I will be working this fall for a Dem candidate in Mass. So far as I know, this weekend doesn't interfere with any Dem Mass events, but I will have to check and see. (Should be okay. But just in case, this disclaimer.)
